Maybeboard

Mono G aggro with a Devotion subtheme.

Swordwise Centaur, Young Wolf, Experiment One, Garruk's Companion, Strangleroot Geist and Rancor put a lot of {G} on the battlefield and beat down. Maybe Bayou Groff isn't optimal but I just want to live the dream of turn 2 sacrificing Young Wolf, ok?

If the board stalls out, Primalcrux and Aspect of Hydra push through. Plus, we're running full playsets of Hidden Nursery and The Hunter Maze to keep the gas coming after we hit six mana. Nylea's Disciple helps make sure we get there.

Even mono-G needs interaction. Ram Through hits creatures our opponents don't want to commit to combat and doubles as a potential closer. Night Soil gives us a mana sink to fight control decks and hoses graveyard strategies. Voracious Varmint deals with most noncreature threats. Vines of Vastwood may not have the ceiling of Aspect of Hydra but often it's good enough and it blanks more types of removal.

Updates Add

In the nine years since I first put this together, some great new tools have become available at common - Experiment One, Hidden Nursery, The Hunter Maze, Masked Vandal, Ram Through and Bayou Groff to name a few. It's time to stop getting cute with Leatherback Baloth and just run Strangleroot Geist, especially with the Groff.

In all the times I've played this I think Gaea's Touch worked out maybe twice. This is a card for some kind of draw power deck, or maybe something abusing Quirion Ranger, not this deck.
