Nylea's Disciple

Creature — Centaur Archer

When Nylea's Disciple enters the battlefield, you gain life equal to your devotion to green.

So, some thoughts:

  • you’re at 62 cards, which is 2 more than you should have - i’d just ditch the two Nylea's Disciple as they’re doing absolutely nothing for you.

  • Raking Canopy should never be in the mainboard of a deck as it’ll just be useless far too often. It would be dubious even in a sideboard. Nissa, Genesis Mage is too much mana for too little profit also. I would swap both for two copies of Garruk Wildspeaker, which offers you quicker ramp and some plan-b options.

  • you only have 3 cards to hit off your genesis effects, which is faar too low a ratio to ever be reliable. Added to that, your description mentions Spawnsire but that card’s not in the deck.

  • Unbound Flourishing doesn’t seem very good here. It would be better served as more payoff cards from your genesis effects.

Two things that might help people better evaluate this:

1) what format is this for? I assume Modern??

2) make this as a deck on the site and put the link to it here. It’s a bit hard reading the list as a wall-of-text.

Just from looking at what’s there at the moment, a bunch of cards don’t seem very good/helpful - namely Nylea's Disciple (doesn’t advance your boardstate therefore doesn’t do anything), Nissa, Genesis Mage (and excessively high mana cost and basically only provides even more mana), Gelatinous Genesis (there’s just better things to be doing than this).

I’m worried you’re investing a lot of energy to maybe be cheating out some kindof-ok (but a bit meh) creatures, when you could instead just be Tooth and Nailing out an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Xenagos, God of Revels to win the game on the spot.

So I'm trying to make the ulimate Genesis Deck that focuses on cheating out Creatures and producing lots of mana to activate Spawnsire, Avacyn, Angel of Hope is for boardwipe protection Archetype of Endurance is for targeting Exile protection, Nylea's Disciple is for life gain from using The One Ring for draw and all the Genesis Cards to cheat my Board state out, except Gelatinous Genesis which for an alt win con. I've managed to get everything out by turn 4 before...but it just doesn't feel fast enough, I brick way too often, by either drawing way too much mana or not drawing enough mana, any advice?

I would like to suggest Thragtusk in the board over Nylea's Disciple. It does cost 1 more for Thragtusk but its a way better target for Genesis Wave, creates threat on its own, and replaces itself with a creature comparable to the disciple when it dies.

Hey, I ran a deck like this in standard, so a couple of things: 1) Walking Ballista is banned in pioneer, not sure why the site didn't flag your deck and

2) Swap out Nylea's Disciple for Setessan Petitioner . Costs one less for the same effect only a smaller creature, I've always wanted this card to be a little bit cheaper.

3) I used to run Setessan Tactics as my board wipe as getting the extra green to strive each time was not a hard thing to do at all, most of the time my entire board fights your board. I also ran Soul of New Phyrexia . I didn't have blue but was about to add it and put in Kruphix, God of Horizons . I had Nylea, God of the Hunt and Hydra Broodmaster . That guy was insane. I also used Karametra's Acolyte . Can't recall what else I had as this was years ago and I don't have the list. They added a ton of cards since then and Pioneer has a large card pool anyway. Good Luck

Small mana quibble: You probably want the full set of Stomping grounds, to just roundly get your mana to 90%+ odds of red when you need it. It's not totally free, but I think it's worthwhile and relatively low cost. ALSO, you can probably go down to 20 lands, between your huge quantity of dorks and Once.

I'm not sure how I feel about Xenagod? He's a big boi payoff that requires you to have a different big boi payoff, but very often you will only have 1 big boi.

I think the payoff ratio might be slightly off, even with your cantrip count. I count 7 payoff creatures, 1 payoff planeswalker, and the set of Nissa, Who Shakes the World as a pseudo payoff...they MIGHT get you there, but they're also around in large part to get more ramp. A few midsized payoffs that bridge the gap a little bit might be advisable. I might cut 1 Nissa, Xenagod, and the land for 3 Tireless Tracker . It might also be that you don't need the Voyaging Satyr , because of the nonbo with your leyline. With 10 rampers you have an 80% chance to have it in your opening hand, and Once is 66% to find a ramp creature on top of that.

I also might see if some Scavenging Ooze and Nylea's Disciple might find their way into your sideboard. I think agro deserves respect, and obviously scooze has additional utility. If you don't like disciple, Pulse of Murasa is also a good option, as it has play in control matchups too.

I’d swap out Sedge Scorpion for Hexdrinker , as it can grow to be something useful (i’m not too sure why you’re running the scorpion to begin with?).

Other creatures I think you should ditch are Nylea's Disciple and Reverent Hunter - these would both be better served as land and/or ramp creatures (20 land is very low for what you’re trying to do, even with the ramp I think you need 24ish)

Solidarity of Heroes feels like too much of a “win more” card to be useful. I think you should drop it.

Time to Feed just feels like a bad Prey Upon ??

There’s two recent cards that might be of interest to you: Gargos, Vicious Watcher and Unbound Flourishing .

Hi, punchbattle,

My suggestions pretty much all involve the Devotion mechanic from the Theros block. I'd suggest you have a look at Aspect of Hydra, Nylea's Disciple and Nylea, God of the Hunt the last two are probably more sideboard cards though. Outside of that Scavenging Ooze and Heroic Intervention would almost certainly be good fits and extra ramp Llanowar Elves, Arbor Elf and Utopia Sprawl rarely goes wrong, though with Devotion you also have the option of Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

Hope that is of some help, have fun brewing your deck.
