Abaques on Draw a Few Format?

I've never seen that tried, but I will caution that I don't know that it would necessarily lead to quicker games. I could see everyone drawing 2-3 cards instead of 1 making games more event (because mana flood/screw would be less common), but from my experience with decks that make everyone at the table draw more cards (I have both a The Council of Four deck and a Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis deck) it often extends games because everyone gets to play all their stuff and there can end up being board stalls. More cards in hand also makes for more decisions for everyone to make, so more time in each turn for analysis. Personally I enjoy it when everyone at the table gets to do their thing, so I'm happy with those types of games, but that not everyone is.

Of course if you're playing in a higher powered meta with combo decks games will be quicker because somebody will combo off even quicker than before.

Honestly I think you should give it a shot and see how it goes for a few games. And let us know!

I guess my take is

  • it's $9. People do like it

  • it's not on radar because it's just green doing green thing of getting big. It has the same energy and response of zopandrek and unnatural growth.

  • it's not anything that usually ends the game on turn it hits. Like the new voga in pioneer needs one combat to get massive damage. This needs a little more buildip. It's like a nerfed cathar crusade, but with less infinite combos (if they exist at all)

I think your deck is on the right track, but needs differing utility.

I agree with taida that your curve is high, and thus would necessitate deck manipulation to achieve those or replacements altogether.

Ashiok is a weird choice, only because she exiles and takes two turns to have the good effect. I would just generic mill or destruction in its place. Thieve guild enforcer is low and gets the trigger.

I would recommend looking at the old rogue challenger deck from 2021 as it has a lot of cards to let you steal cards. Their gimmick has a lot of milk cards. www.moxfield.com/decks/zZHIVTZIEUqZcj2kOZPy0A

So, this might be a bad idea, but has anyone ever tried commander games where each player draws 2 or 3 at draw step? I've been thinking about this because there is so much card draw in decks and in most colors now, and I was wondering if each player was drawing more naturally if it would open up more space in decks for interaction and gas and lead to faster, more back and forth games.

I feel like there could be really big ways to exploit the system, but there things like Rhystic Study to exploit the game already, so not too sure if it would be crazy.

Either way, I think my group may try a few and see how it goes, but I was just wondering if anyone has tried it. We are always trying to find ways to have more going on in the first turns of the EDH game, and I played an old card game where you draw 3 per turn, and it used to add a ton of fun to a game because every turn you'd get a brand new game plan.

Might be a crazy idea, but my thought is just to make more going on in EDH rather than ramp-draw-eventually something big happens. 60 card has so much interaction on every turn and I think I miss that a bit in commander.

Those were my thoughts too. First. But Compy Swarm seems a bit slow to me. I need the Sac Outlet first, then another creature has to die to get two compys. I can sacrifice a maximum of one of these and then only have two again since i dont have anythinf else zu sac. Do you understand? Rutstein Gives me the opportunity to retrieve and play a Mana Dork in addition to Merens reanimated Creature or other creatures with an ETB effect. And looping Rutstein itself can get pretty nasty. Both good cards but I'm very unsure

I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, but I need confirmation.

If I exile a spell with X in the mana cost, say Torment of Hailfire with, say, Wrenn's Resolve, am I able to cast Torment AND pay for X?

Hey sorry for the short first post did it right before sleep. And thanks Crow_Umbra for getting that Isshin info to Merk-A-Do. I have a few other suggestions that I think will help the deck. Personally I would consider dropping both Public Thoroughfare and Exotic Orchard for something like Vault of the Archangel or maybe Westvale Abbey  Flip for one of those 2 and Myriad Landscape for the other. The reason being that even though you are 3 colors the Orchard could potentially only tap for a green or blue which is little to no use to you. As for the Thoroughfare it both enters the battlefield tapped and you have to pay something to it which will slow you down just a bit more, and that could cost you a precious turn.

I am also confused as to why you have Krenko, Mob Boss in there. Don't get me wrong great commander for goblins but not too sure he would stay in play long enough for you to utilize him very well. You might consider Myrel, Shield of Argive or Teysa, Orzhov Scion

+1 Create a colorless Shard enchantment token. It has ", sacrifice this token: Scry 1, then draw a card."

-3 Until end of turn, Shard tokens you control have ", sacrifice this token: Deal 2 damage to any target."

-X Create X Shard tokens. They can't be sacrificed this turn.

-8 You get an emblem with "At the beginning of your upkeep, scry X where X is the number of Shard tokens you control, then draw two cards."

We have Huatli and Saheeli, we use to have Chandra and Nissa, and we also have Ral and Tomik Vrona.

OGL 2.0

Enchantment

Whenever a spell or effect an opponent controls would cause them to flip a coin or roll a die, gain control of that spell or effect and put an Outrage counter on OGL 2.0.

: OGL 2.0's controller sacrifices it and loses 5 life. This ability costs less to activate for each Outrage counter on OGL 2.0. Any player may activate this ability.

While you specified D20s, I think the flavor of this card works better with all dice.

It's pride month! Make another Niko Aris planeswalker.

Gidgetimer on Brenard and Tarmogoyf?

You can link cards by enclosing their names in double brackets.

Brenard, Ginger Sculptor

Tarmogoyf

Tarmogoyf has what is known as a "characteristic-defining ability" (CDA), as do all */* cards. When a copy effect changes a characteristic that is being defined by a CDA, the CDA isn't copied. Tarmogoyf will be a 1/1.

707.9d When applying a copy effect that doesn’t copy a certain characteristic, retains one or more original values for a certain characteristic, or provides a specific set of values for a certain characteristic, any characteristic-defining ability (see rule 604.3) of the object being copied that defines that characteristic is not copied.

Gidgetimer on Should I Keep Consuming Aberration …

The Mimeoplasm seems like the type of deck that Consuming Aberration would thrive in. I would cut it from the other 2 decks.

I'm not sure how much my replacement suggestions are going to be to your liking since I feel like your decks need mana ramp and you have been resistant to that suggestion in the past. So I would add a talisman to each deck. Since they are replacing a UB creature Talisman of Dominance is the easy one to name off, but any from the "pain lands, but as artifacts" cycle would do. To fulfil your "preferably creatures" requirement I'd say Grand Abolisher in Sen Triplets and Plaguecrafter for Thraximundar.

Gidgetimer on EDH Merens Reanimator

Compy Swarm seems better to me. You want creatures to be dying anyway so you are going to be doubling up on Compy Swarm each of your end steps and it also gives easy sacrifice fodder to keep the experience flowing. Honest Rutstein does the bad half of your commander's ability and then discounts creatures, which you would probably rather reanimate than cast anyway.

DemonDragonJ on Should I Keep Consuming Aberration …

I have a copy of Consuming Aberration in three different EDH decks of mine: The Mimeoplasm deck, my Thraximundar deck, and my Sen Triplets deck, but I am wondering if I should keep it those decks; it is very useful in The Mimeoplasm deck, as that deck uses graveyards as resources, but the other two decks typically do not care very much about my opponents' graveyards, so I am wondering what other cards I could put into those decks in place of Consuming Aberration (preferably creatures with a mana value no greater than 5, so as not to raise the mana curves of those decks).

What does everyone else say about this subject? Should I keep Consuming Aberration in those decks, and, if not, what cards do you suggest as replacements for it?

LanceJade on Food, Full Pints, & Fellowship

I had a deck very similar to this one. What I discovered with time and testing was that it would either do the ring tempts you or the Food token generation but when it tried to do both it would fail. It also lacked a solid win condition, but you already covered that. From what I can see you're deck is doing what mine did and is leaning more toward food generation.

What I liked: I like the sanguine bond/Vito and Exquisite blood combo. I hadn't thought about that for my deck and is a solid win condition if you can get it set up without people noticing. Your manabase also looks pretty solid which is good.

Suggestions: With your deck leaning more toward food I would consider putting in creatures that work with sacrificing/making artifacts. Some cards to consider would be disciple of the vault, Nadier's Nightblade, Amalia Benavides Aguirre and Bartolome del Presidio.

While your manabase looks good, I would suggest Indatha Triome and investing in ramp spells (Many Partings (Which also makes food), Cultivate, Kodama's reach).

Not sure if combos are your thing but Rosie Cotton goes infinite with Scurry Oak and Heard Baloth and a few others while Peregrin Took combos with Experimental confectioner and has a crazy combo with clock of omens, cauldron familiar and witch's oven.

My final suggestion is that if you do go the food route with this deck, you'll probably want to change out your commander. Any Abzan commander would theoretically work, but my best fit was Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant.

Regardless this looks like a good, fun deck.

legendofa on Arcavios Outside of Strixhaven

There are several ways for a new set on Arcavios to involve Strixhaven that I would be fine with. Field trips, hands-on study, and even international travel are pretty common at all the schools I know of. There are some good historical sites nearby for the Lorehold students, Prismari could find someone hing to be inspired by, there's natural ecosystems for Witherbloom to study, and Silverquill and Quandrix could probably find some sort of cultural exchange.

If I had to pitch the next couple of Arcavios sets, I would suggest putting the next set in the area around Strixhaven and keep it involved. The third set goes further out, with less Strixhaven and more of whatever the focus of the sound set was. Keep expanding outward, using just enough of the previous sets to show the connection while continually revealing more and more of the world at large.

For a real-world comparison, let's replace Strixhaven with Harvard University. The first set stays on the college campus. The second set follows students to New York, the Atlantic Coast, and White Mountain National Forest. The third set builds off of those and adds Toronto University, the city of Montreal, and maybe something in the Appalachians, with only a handful of references to Strixhaven. Keep going outward until a full world develops.

On the other hand, most planes don't seem to be anywhere close to the size of Earth, and more than a few planes are defined by one location. I've gone off about Amonkhet before. Planes like Theros have a couple of suggestions that there's more to the world, but we just haven't seen it yet. Kaladesh could be much more than Ghirapur. Those two plus Innistrad, Tarkir, Lorwyn, and several of others could all easily fit on an Earth-like plane without actually coming into contact with each other, as demonstrated by Earth itself. (Let's ignore stuff like the Silk Road and various empires for the moment.)

Goldberserkerdragon on Vohar - Reanimator

I have a Vohar reanimator deck and it's a blast! A lot of what reanimator wants to do is not have loads of creatures and utilize ways to dump your hand (usually) into the grave. You want enough reanimation spells but with Vohar you will be drawing 2+ a turn with the discarding a big boy to the yard. Ramp is essential not just for getting going, but good for rebuilding. Also late game reanimator just turns into you can cast most things now so just pack a combo or way to win if your beefy monsters aren't smashing through. You can also sac Vohar to recast a Reanimate from the yard, so he's the full package. More card draw/ramp is my solid rec.

FormOverFunction on Arcavios Outside of Strixhaven

I think I’ve raised the issue of having “Star Wars Planet” problems with media/games/etc. Every (most?) planet(s) in Star Wars are uniform in their general environment. Ice, sand, lava, city, and maybe one or two “it’s basically earth” here and there. This makes it easier on everyone, whether it’s art direction or the viewer being tasked to remember “Dagobah is the mud planet and everyone on Hoth is freezing cold”. This simplicity is pretty great for bubblegum-type enjoyment, but it also provides an opportunity; reveal a surprise aspect of the plane/planet/etc that makes sense... but none of us thought about it. COULD there be a desert somewhere on Dagobah? Absolutely. Endor is just a moon, so there’s a little less to work with maybe... but to say that there CAN’T be a giant lake/ocean on the other side would be silly. I don’t even know who/where Arcavios is, can’t say I remember reading that name before, but there’s the chance that they’ll pull something cool together. It’s not unreasonable to be optimistic.

DemonDragonJ on Arcavios Outside of Strixhaven

In Mark Rosewater's most recent article about the Rabiah scale, he stated that, if the game were to return to Arcavios, players would most likely expect that Strixhaven would be involved in the story in some capacity, but I dislike that idea, because I feel that an entire plane should not be defined by a single location on it; if we presume that Arcavios is approximately the same size as Earth, that is a great amount of area to explore, so I sincerely hope that there is more to Arcavios than simply Strixhaven, as that would be very poor worldbuilding, otherwise.

What does everyone else say about this? If the game returns to Arcavios, would you like to see more of the plane, beyond Strixhaven?
