If you’re looking for deck building tips, there are tons of knowledgeable people on this site. Some real experts. Don’t be afraid to tag a deck as ‘Help Wanted’ so people will know to chime in.

Before you buy any cards, if I were to offer a suggestion, it would be to settle on a particular ‘thing’ you want your deck to do (Win by aggro, ramp into big payoffs, control, etc) and double down on that one strategy. Ideally you’ll handpick fewer cards that support that gameplan and run more copies of each (3-4), as opposed to ‘one of this, one of that’. It’ll be much more consistent and fun to play.

What do you think of Estrid's Invocation in this list? Each upkeep it becomes whatever Enchantment is situationally best, that seems worth a look? It's really good if you've already got Sterling Grove or Greater Auramancy out, then your Enchantments are shrouded. Have you thought about something more spicy than Wrath of God in here? I was wondering about something like Single Combat, Promise of Loyalty, or even Winds of Abandon? There is always Cyclonic Rift, with Rule of Law out Rift is a truly backbreaking play in my limited experience. In my Stax deck I found Brave the Sands very useful, it can make it easy for my single large creature to attack with impunity, as well as block up to two creatures per combat (which is usually enough if you've got something like Stasis or Static Orb out).

I can't seem to figure it out on my own, but I'm guessing you have a good reason not to use All That Glitters in here? Not enough synergy perhaps/Tuvasa is usually big enough on her own?

Anyways cool list, cEDH Stax is tons of fun!

You will need to remove 18 card to get to 60: - 2 Mystic Forge and 4 Deadly Dispute - Affinity is an aggro deck; it wants to put additional creatures on board, not just draw cards. You may leave Thoughtcast and Thought Monitor. That will also rid you of black color entirely. - 4 Mistvault Bridge - 22 lands is too much for a 60 card deck that mostly plays free spells. You also don't want to draw multiple tapped lands. - 2 Shrapnel Blast - You don't want multiples in your opening hand, because then you won't have enough artifacts to cast your spells. You are also playing another sacrifice outlet (Arcbound Ravager) and too many sacrifice effect have diminishing returns. - 2 Myr Enforcer - You were playing 12 7 mana spells, that's simply too much. You can't keep opening hand with 4 of them. - 4 Lotus Petal - The only card in your deck that was not Modern legal. Also it's useless in longer game.

After these cuts, your deck has 60 card. However, 10 of them are non-artifacts, which may be more than you would like.

I will also give you a few other tips: - If you are too low on 0 mana cost cards, try Memnite or Welding Jar. Jar does something even in longer game, unlike your original Lotus Petal. - Nettlecyst - Acts similarly to the Cranial Plating, but comes with a body and has a good toughness. If you would play it, I suggest that you replace them for Arcbound Ravager, as they are doing opposite things.

Kelthor, the Scholar

Legendary Creature - Human Wizard

Cumulative upkeep (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)

At the beginning of your precombat main phase, draw a card.

When Kelthor, the Scholar dies, scry X, where X is the number of age counters on Kelthor, then draw a card.

0/1

This thing is actually way too good, I think, even though I nerfed it from the og version I designed.

Kilnarock the dreamer

WHenever a nontoken creature enters the battlefield under an opponents control roll a dice, it looses all abilities and becomes an X/X horror where X is the number rolled on the dice. Until ~ leaves the battlefield

+X: roll a dice ~ gains X loyalty where X is the number rolled. if X is 1 target player skips their next turn else draw X cards

-2: For each opponent Exile target creature, its controller creates a 2/2 blue bird horror creature token called "Penguin?"

-12: Each opponent gets an emblem with "At the beginning of your upkeep exile the top 10 cards of your library"

"He was just a baby when he was exposed to more power than any of us could dream of."

I probably have too many planewalkers. Goldfishing, I tend to get mana flooded more often than screwed, but I will consider cutting a ramp piece or two for lands.

I recently cut Ashnod's alter because I didn't need a ton of colorless mana but Phyrexian could help. At this point though, just going to cut three more cards to finish before any additions of tweaking. I cut most of the aristocrat suit already but I may rebuild if it doesn't run how I want it to.

Thanks for the comment. It does help, especially if I tweak post completion.

One of the things I really like about Obeka is how good she as at breaking niche cards, like who is running Darksteel Reactor or Chronozoa lol. I reaaaally like this build just because of how cheeky it is and the classic cards you are running...Clout of the Dominus, Dragonmaster Outcast, I don't even have any recs cause I haven't tried brewing Obeka yet we all know the staples and you are choosing to run cool tech instead. No Rhystic is a good sign :) Props on this!

---Actually I did a little looking at upkeep stuff out of curiosity and Recantation could be crazy in here, it's basically Upheaval which is banned! Gravestorm seems cool too esp. if you throw a Bojuka Bog in there.

Replacement effects (which is the type of ability that all three of these are) do not trigger and do not use the stack. They simply change the outcome of a game event and can only apply to a given event once. Since you are the affected player you will get to choose the order in which the abilities apply.

Assuming that you want as many tokens as possible the optimal way to apply the effects is going to be PT & CotPP (in either order) and then AM since this will turn the clue into 2 clues and a food and then those three will be replaced with a food, a clue, and a treasure each netting you 3 each of food, treasures, and clues.

AM and then PT & CotPP (in either order) will result in 2 food, 1 treasure, and 2 clues. The upkeep clue turns into one of each token and then an additional clue and an additional food are added.

PT, AM, CotPP results in 2 food, 2 treasure, 3 clues.

CotPP, AM, PT results in 3 food, 2 treasure, 2 clues.

I haven't played with Railway Brawler, and it seems good, but I'm not sure it's suited for every deck. It's a very powerful effect to add counters and double creatures power, but at 5 cmc, you probably won't be casting a creature right after railway brawler, and then it has to stick around until next turn. Maybe it's great with flash enablers? Flash it in before your turn and then go to town sounds pretty good.

I mean, I think it's a really good card, but it's much less powerful than something like Voja, Jaws of the Conclave just because Voja works with haste enablers to get the value end on the turn it comes down.

I feel like Railway Brawler could absolutely run away with games, but I feel like it could also just get hit by Swords to Plowshares just as much of the time.

Oh wow, so I had always thought that the owner of a face down card is allowed to look at it at any time. Apparently that is not true; Only when you are instructed to. It is after you have been given permission or instruction, that you may now look at it at any time. Interesting.

I guess she would need some wording updates, as if she isn't already bulky enough.

legendofa on Enygma, Deceiver of Truths

Do you know what the cards you put in your graveyard and top of deck are when you choose? All the cards get exiled face down, and you never get to look at them.

If that's the intention, that you have to guess which card should go where, that's an interesting mini challenge. Looking before deciding would make the card more reliable.

wallisface on Black and White Soul Sisters …

With the upcoming Mh3, there’s two cards you may want to consider fitting into this brew: Sorin of House Markov, and Guide of Souls.

I really strongly feel like your mainboard needs 22 (maybe even 23?) lands instead of 21.

As far as your sideboard goes, it feels like you are particularly weak to the opponents interaction and/or combo strategies. In that vein i’d run something like:

————————————

In relation to some of the cards already in your sideboard selection, i’d suggest against them for the following reasons:

  • Stony Silence doesn’t do enough to artifacts decks, as many don’t use activated abilities too often - namely this hurts Scales, but not-really Affinity.

  • Inquisition of Kozilek is good against control and some kinds of combo. But only being able to hit 3-or-less mana makes this awkward against both. Combo decks you should already have answers for with my above suggestions. I don’t see this deck beating control whatever it does, so i don’t think there’s point trying to fight it with this card.

  • Kor Firewalker is only useful versus burn. Your deck should have absolutely no problem beating burn naturally, so this isn’t needed.

  • Sanctifier en-Vec feels like overkill if you’re already running Rest in Peace. Furthermore, it’s more red-hate in a deck already generally positioned well against a lot if red gameplans

  • Ghost Quarter i’m not sure why you’re running this? I assume for tron, but this really won’t slow them down enough to matter, and is more likely to mess with your own tempo.

  • Surgical Extraction is generally only good versus combo, but requires being in a deck with a LOT if ways to force discard/mill so you can reliably exile what you need to.

I have recently started building a new deck. It is a Morska, Undersea Sleuth deck.

I have so far been playtesting it on here and then today playtested it in a real 4 man pod with some playtest cards.

I have narrowed it down to be a Krark-Clan Ironworks + Myr Retriever + Scrap Trawler combo deck.

Whilst fine tuning the list I noticed a potential combo that I am unsure about. I am curious to know how the following three cards interact.

I understand the replacement effect between Peregrin Took & Academy Manufactor, but what happens if you throw the third card into the mix?

Am I right in thinking the following:

Clue enters. PT & COTPP both trigger. I stack & resolve PT. AM sees this and multiplies the additional clue to make a food & treasure. Do I then get a second replacement effect from COTPP which makes an extra clue & triggers AM again, which then creates a loop?

Is this an infinite loop that would present a draw unless I could removed a combo piece?

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hells-robots-1/ I worked on this deck for more than two months (which is why it has more views than it should), and I think I have something real solid. Basically get artifacts out as soon as possible, sack then to the preist or cast Dark Rituals, and get those robots out by turn 3 - 4 in the best case. If I can't find a Knowledge Vault I'll replace it with a Book of Rass. I can also get those robots back using those tokens from Tetravus and sack them to Hell's Caretaker. If the Yawgmoth Demon can stay it can be a wincon. Also has burn to get problematic creatures out of the way or to get just enough damage to win. The Mana Flare can get me across if I'm down on my luck. Flase Orders in the sideboard just in case of creature based strategies, as I can force a bad block and kill for lethal for, say an Atog. So yeah tell me what you think.

I really really enjoy the idea of a sphinx putting three face down cards in front of an opponent, and then having three different things happen with each of those three cards. A very cool card that doesn’t necessarily lock you into a paint-by-number deck. Even one of my dumb theme-ey decks could use this (some sort of oracle/riddle/etc theme) and function totally fine. Very well done!!
