Why Sisay, Weatherlight Captain

When looking at cEDH decklist I used to think all WUBRG decks were just 5 color good stuff. However several people in the Unified Mono White Discord really like Sisay. As I was looking for a new cEDH deck to try I started asking them about it.

That is when I realized that the deck isn't just 5 color good stuff and wins the game with some very unique and interesting combos. I like the traditional planeswalker version best. However, there is also Birthing Pod, and Jegantha, the Wellspring builds.

Cultist of the Absolute combo line

Not everyone on the planeswalker version of Sisay runs this line. The reason I do is that this line doesn't rely on Bloom Tender, Faeburrow Elder, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, or Dockside Extortionist to get started.

• Set up {W}{U}{B}{R}{G}{1} mana available + Sisay in play + another creature in play.
• On the opponent's turn before your own activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Cultist of the Absolute. Sisay is now a 6/6 minimum.
• Move to your turn with Cultist of the Absolute's trigger on the stack fetch Dihada, Binder of Wills. Sac the creature that is not Sisay, Weatherlight Captain. Sissay is now a 8/8 minimum.
• Activate Dihada, Binder of Wills's -3 and create 4 treasures.
• Use the 4 treasures and an extra mana to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain again fetching Chromatic Orrery and proceed to one of the other combo lines.

Aminatou / Nicol Bolas combo line

This is not an exhaustive list of all the tutor chains you can use to combo. This is just meant to give you some examples of the most straight forward lines.

If the rainbow dorks Bloom Tender, Faeburrow Elder, or Selvala, Heart of the Wilds:

• Set up {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} mana available + Sisay in play with 3 or more power.
• Activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Saheeli Rai, Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler, or Derevi, Empyrial Tactician depending what colors you need to make Sisay bigger / make your rainbow dorks tap for {W}{U}{B}{R}{G}.
• Untap / clone the rainbow dork using Saheeli Rai's -2, Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler +1, or Derevi, Empyrial Tactician's enter the battlefield trigger.
• Use the rainbow dork to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Aminatou, the Fateshifter.
• Use Aminatou, the Fateshifter's -1 to flicker the piece that lets you untap / clone the rainbow dork. Use the flickered piece to untap / clone the rainbow dork.
• Use the rainbow dork to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God.
• Use Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God's -1 (copied from Aminatou, the Fateshifter) to flicker the piece that lets you untap / clone the rainbow dork. Use the flickered piece to untap / clone the rainbow dork.
• Use the rainbow dork to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Oath of Teferi.
• Both Aminatou, the Fateshifter and Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God now have two activation of Aminatou, the Fateshifter's -1 each. One activation will be used to reset the other's number of activation. The second activation is used to produce infinite mana and infinite flickers. Proceed to use Sisay, Weatherlight Captain to fetch a finisher.

If Dockside Extortionist for 5+ treasures or Chromatic Orrery:

• Set up {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} mana available + Sisay in play with 3 or more power.
• Use Dockside Extortionist's treasures or Chromatic Orrery to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Aminatou, the Fateshifter.
• Use Aminatou, the Fateshifter's -1 to flicker Dockside Extortionist or Chromatic Orrery.
• Use Dockside Extortionist's treasures or Chromatic Orrery to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God.
• Use Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God's -1 (copied from Aminatou, the Fateshifter) to flicker Dockside Extortionist or Chromatic Orrery.
• Use Dockside Extortionist's treasures or Chromatic Orrery to activate Sisay, Weatherlight Captain fetching Oath of Teferi.
• Both Aminatou, the Fateshifter and Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God now have two activation of Aminatou, the Fateshifter's -1 each. One activation will be used to reset the other's number of activation. The second activation is used to produce infinite mana and infinite flickers. Proceed to use Sisay, Weatherlight Captain to fetch a finisher.

Emiel the Blessed combo line

• Fetching pieces using Sisay, Weatherlight Captain depends on what is going on in the game and what pieces you have access to already.
• Emiel the Blessed + Dockside Extortionist with 4+ treasures on ETB = infinite mana, infinite untap and infinite treasures.
• Emiel the Blessed + Derevi, Empyrial Tactician + Bloom Tender(taps for 4+), Faeburrow Elder(taps for 4+), Selvala, Heart of the Wilds(taps for 5+), Chromatic Orrery, or Gaea's Cradle(taps for 4+) = infinite mana, and infinite untap.
• With infinite mana, and infinite untap proceed to use Sisay, Weatherlight Captain to fetch a finisher.

Finishers

• With the Aminatou / Nicol Bolas combo line Saheeli Rai can be flickered infinitely to keep activating her +1 for infinite damage.
• With either infinite untap or flickering and infinite mana Mount Doom can be activated for infinite damage. Also as a legendary land it can be fetched with Sisay, Weatherlight Captain.
• Orcish Bowmasters produces infinite damage if flickered infinitely but cannot be fetched with Sisay, Weatherlight Captain.
• With the Aminatou / Nicol Bolas combo line Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God's +1 can be infinitely activated to exile opponent's hands and boards. Be careful not to deck yourself however.
• With either infinite untap or flickering and infinite mana Chromatic Orrery can be used to get infinite draw to find another finisher. Be careful not to deck yourself however.
• With infinite mana Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy can be activated infinitely to get Orcish Bowmasters.

Shock Lands and no Gaea's Cradle?

• My play group is very proxy friendly for cEDH however as a personal choice I am going as proxy free with this deck as I can.
• That being said as I am on 9 shock lands instead of the 9 original dual lands. The extra life loss should not matter most games as I am not on Ad Nauseam.
• I should also be on Gaea's Cradle instead of Tarnished Citadel but Cradle is outside my budget currently.
