Vivien on the Hunt

Legendary Planeswalker — Vivien

+2: You may sacrifice a creature. If you do, search your library for a creature card with mana value/converted mana cost equal to 1 plus the sacrificed creature's mana value, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

+1: Mill five cards, then put any number of creature cards milled this way into your hand. (Put the top five cards of your library into your graveyard.)

-1: Create a 4/4 green Rhino Warrior creature token.

As others have stated, modern is a really aggressive format right now. MH1/2 have really vamped it up and made in unfriendly to outside decks. That said, MTGGoldfish (mostly SaffronOlive) has a list of budget decks for most formats (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/modern#paper), and he lists results with them too. The ones I specifically remember being good are:

  • Rundvelt Whack (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5090820#paper)
  • 12 Whack (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4235982#paper)
  • 12 Shadow (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4973614#paper)
  • Squirrel Twin (https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/4047860#paper)

There is a guy at my LGS playing Rundvelt Whack and another playing Squirrel Twin, and while they don't win all the time they both have decent results. (Self Plug Time: I have a budget Greasefang deck that's also been doing well https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hollowfang-1/)

If you want to vamp up your decks I would suggest more removal. I recall reading somewhere that modern really wants around a third of your deck to be able to remove opponent's stuff, but not sure how accurate that is. If you want to play a pod style deck, I believe there is a Vivien on the Hunt combo deck running around somewhere.

Balaam_ I'm thinking about cutting Vivien on the Hunt and Nantuko Husk out for 2 more Sterling Grove and cutting Safehold Elite for another Viscera Seer.

Balaam_ I'm also thinking about cutting Vivien on the Hunt. I don't think I've ever cast her before and if I did I've used her like maybe once.

Birthing Pod and Vivien on the Hunt is also similar.

Yesterday on I'm looking for cards like …

As a deckbuilding challenge, I'm trying to build a deck that includes viable lines for every one of the Birthing Pod-like cards.

Are there any that I've missed?

Also I guess these, too.

I'm not looking for things like Reshape, where I can control the mana value of the chosen permanent by paying extra.

Thanks in advance!
