Finally got around to building this deck and there are so many directions you can take it. Thalia and The Gitrog Monster kind of goes in 3 directions all at once. The first ability of playing extra lands accelerates our game plan. The second ability tapping down creatures and non basic lands leans into hatebears. And the last ability give us some card draw while allowing for a more aristocrats build. While the color combination is good for all 3 strategies I decided to lean heavily into more of a landfall strategy and heavy ramp build which is more my play style. The deck is built to start fast and establish a heavy board presence early then lean on value accrued from landfall and our commanders third ability.

The main gameplan: Ramp ramp ramp ramp. I’ve stacked the deck with as much ramp as possible (probably too much) to get our commander out early and start abusing its abilities. You want them out usually no later than turn 3. We have a lot of mana dorks because not only do they get our commander out quickly, they can be sacrificed for card draw later once they are no longer useful. In addition, since we are a landfall deck I’ve included as much sorcery ramp as we can also. Using them to flood the board with lands we should always be ahead in that department. We should be putting so many lands into play, sacrificing them for value to our commander shouldn’t be a problem either. There are 39 lands in the deck which is plenty to fuel other cards in addition to our commander like Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Wayward sword tooth, and the original The Gitrog Monster to dump all the lands in our hand.

Landfall Since our main goal is getting value through our lands landfall is and easy route to take - Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer, Avenger of Zendikar and rampaging ballots are our biggest haymakers in the deck giving us a big beater as well as a token army with them. -Emeria Angel, Scute Swarm, Felidar Retreat, and Field of the Dead all help booster the board with additional tokens for sacrifice fodder or to swing in late game. - Tireless Provisioner and Lotus Cobra both allow for extremely explosive turns because the essentially double all the lands we play that turn

Card Draw With as many lands that are in the deck and as much ramp as we run, we need to be able to refill our hand and not run out of gas. One giant plus is that Thalia and Gitrog have card draw stapled on it which is a massive help in the command zone. Also the original The Gitrog Monster can draw us cards with another land sacrificing theme. Since this deck runs a fairly large number of creatures I've included Guardian Project and The Great Henge which are just green staples. Horn of Greed may allow our opponents to draw as well but with as many lands as we should be playing we will get much greater value. Since the deck makes a large number of tokens, Shamanic Revelation and Toski, Bearer of Secrets can both draw cards in bunches. Braids, Arisen Nightmare is also does very well especially once I start sacrificing lands to her ability.

How to win There are no infinite combos in the deck (that I am aware of) and the build I have here is very much a midrange deck. We want value early to build an army and swing. Avenger of Zendikar and Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer were mentioned earlier as well as many other token makers to give us a large army. A well timed Akroma's Will can be enough to ice the game with a big enough army. The be fair the deck could use a few more haymakers in this section to perhaps take the entire table at once.

Overall I really enjoyed brewing this deck and I can't wait to get more action with this deck. It is super fun to pilot and can lead to some very explosive turns. I would love to hear suggestions of cards to add or take out as well as what you like and don't like about the deck. Thanks!
