Sheoldred, the Apocalypse debuted in Dominaria United and is a 4/5 Phyrexian Praetor with deathtouch for 2BB. Whenever we draw a card, we gain two life. Whenever an opponent draws a card, they lose two life. The abilities of our General are the focal points of this deck’s construction, and are our guides on the path to victory. This build is inundated with cards that synergize with Sheoldred’s abilities, and there are also cards that utilize our robust hand-size and life total as alternate win conditions if needed. The theme of this mono-black deck is based on rewarding ourselves, and punishing our opponents, for engaging in the most beloved fundamental aspect of playing Magic: The Gathering: drawing cards. Throughout this build, there are numerous spells and abilities that make players draw cards early, often and frequently. When these card-drawing effects are paired with our General’s triggered abilities and other similar effects, a chasm-like discrepancy in life totals forms. Through this dynamic, a basic principle of the game becomes weaponized, and our opponents’ enjoyment of drawing cards may never be the same again.
