Introduction

Samurai + Snow + Legendary = Mt Fuji!

This deck operates as a little bit of a Samurai Tribal and Legendary "Tribal". I am also very new to MTG -- please give my deck suggestions!

While this deck is not budget by any means, I am still trying to keep cost down as it is the most expensive deck I have looked at making. If you have the cash, Eiganjo Castle, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers, etc. feel like they would be really good.

Six of the cards (4x Search for Glory and 2xTime of Need) tutor for legendary cards, offering a lot of flexibility depending on the situation. Cards that are really important to tutor/play early are Reki, the History of Kamigawa and Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper so that you can get a draw engine and mana ramp going on. As a general goal, you should also be aiming to play Jorn, God of Winter   to have double mana. Kolvori, God of Kinship   has been especially good in my test games as you can reliably get two other creatures out. The samurai package is intended as an earlier game to try and keep you alive long enough to get to the rest of the deck. The bushido keyword is especially helpful when just trying to block and stay alive. Also as a general rule, you should be trying to play out Day of Destiny.

On Thin Ice is your only single target removal, but you can tutor it with Search for Glory and some of the slack should be made up for by board wipes that (mostly) don't matter to you using Urza's Ruinous Blast.

Early game can sometimes mean taking some decent damage in this deck, so you can use Search for Glory, Shadowspear, and Elspeth, Sun's Nemesis for consistent life gain. Add more as needed.

I can see some alternate ways to build this, maybe by cutting the Samurai package:

  • Legendary planeswalker tutor (cut some legendary minions and the artifacts that synergize with them and make a deck which lets you find any planeswalker you need for a given situation, probably also run the planeswalkers that increase the loyalty of other planeswalkers like Ajani Steadfast)

  • Originally, I was also splashing red for Brothers Yamazaki, Fumiko the Lowblood, Godo, Bandit Warlord, Iizuka the Ruthless, and Jaya's Immolating Inferno but it felt like the cards were generally too much mana and too unreliable with the amount of red mana I was running.

  • You could also do some spiciness and splash black by running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, which you can fetch reliably with the Search for Glory

  • You could maybe also try and do a build that is a little bit more snow focused (like using Frost Augur as a draw engine) but since there are fewer snow legenderies, idk if that is feasible
