Maybeboard

You should play this deck if:

  • You are looking for an optimized, early-mid game deck.

  • You fancy playing mono-red aggro decks.

  • You fancy playing expensive mana creatures.

  • You really want to play both Darksteel Colossus and Blightsteel Colossus.

  • You want refrain from winning via infinite combo.

The deck is very easy to pilot. We are going full aggro on this one, ensuring three main targets are achieved throughout the game:

TARGET 1: You want to ramp as fast as possible in early game. A good opening hand should allow you to cast Phurphoros on T2 or T3. It is possible to cast it on T1 as well. Once Phurphoros is on the battlefield it is not that easy to remove. Alternatively, a very powerful opening hand includes Sneak Attack, which may easily replace your commander for the rest of the game if it isn't removed.

TARGET 2: Keeping a mana-dense opening hand means that you may have few or no big creatures to play. Usually, this is offset by the first few draw steps. If you want to play it safely, make sure you have at least one wheel in your opening hand. The deck runs Wheel of Fortune, Wheel of Misfortune, Reforge the Soul, Runehorn Hellkite, Ruin Grinder, Magus of the Wheel, and Dragon Mage. Additional cards to refill your hands are Sandstone Oracle, Knollspine Dragon, and Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion. The deck runs additional cards to help you drawing once empty handed.

TARGET 3: This is the core of the deck: exploiting your commander to cheat powerful creatures in play. This target uses several synergies, in particular:

Notably, the deck also two infinite combos gravitating around Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker which are collateral to the strategy. These are:

Updates Add

In Memory Jar, out Reforge the Soul ---> Memory Jar works better on tempo; I don't have any deck manipulation to successfully exploit the miracle ability.

In The One Ring, out Delina, Wild Mage --> Delina underperformed, and I need an additional draw source to avoid the common problem of empty hands or draw-pass turns.

Replaced Spinerock Knoll with a basic --> just an overall underperforming land that enters tapped.
