Darb_the_Bard on Buttercup: Princess Bride

I really want to add Queen Marchesa to the deck. I've been feeling a bit sad that we've taken out most of the small, non-legendary deathtouch creatures that were in the original list. Don't get me wrong - I think the deck is stronger for leaning more heavily into the legendary and keyword soup themes. But I also want to make sure Westley has a chance to shine, particularly if our opponents remove Odric and we need another way to get a bunch of deathtouch creatures in play. Plus, many of the deck's removal spells (fight spells) were added with the expectation that we would always have a deathtouch creatures in play: Infectious Bite, Smell Fear, and Khalni Ambush  Flip.

So if the goal is to increase our deathtouch creatures while maintaining our other themes, then Queen Marchesa seems like a great fit. She is legendary and provides three colors for Buttercup, but what I'm most excited about is that she has deathtouch herself and can create more deathtouch dudes (plus the haste she provides to the soup is a bonus). And she also introduces the Monarch upon ETB, so whether we cast her or tutor for her, she replaces herself with a card draw that turn. Then she is either creating another deathtouch creature every turn or drawing us an additional card every turn. I also feel like the Monarch is just a fun and flavorful way to play with Princess Bride cards.

I'm having trouble deciding what to take out though. Any thoughts?

The best advice I can offer MRclean12k is add as much proliferate as you can. Oil is a limited resource, especially with Migloz, Maze Crusher. Proliferate added to a card I like to think of it as adding an extra mana of value to a spell. So find some spells that serve a function in the deck but tack on proliferate, such as Smell Fear or Infectious Bite. That being said, in my Migloz deck I also went +1/+1 counters as well. Good luck with the deck. I look forward to see it when you post in on here…

Skullbriar is the commander so you can have it relocate to your command zone should he die/be exile/return to hand. The only place that makes his counters dissapear is hand and library.

Dragonscale Boon instant 2 +1counters untap. Can create suprise blocker. Evolution Sage land etb proliferate which is choose any number of things add an additional counter of whatever they have.

Smell Fear new removal option.

Reyhan, Last of the Abzan highly suggest this. Turns anything into a threat with your commander dying.

Solidarity of Heroes double counters for a potential Instant speed kill out of no where.

Biogenic Upgrade double counters after adding 3.

Branching Evolution counters doubler

Heroic Intervention protection

Fight Rigging free spell + counter per turn.

Hydra's Growth double counters

Primordial Hydra 2ndary threat if left alone. Synergies well.

Realizing now I didn't suggest any evasion. Some sort of evasion could go a long way. Trailblazer's Boots is the best example. Can't be blocked if your opponent has a nonbasic land. Essentially unblockable every time.

Evil idea

Tainted Strike infect kill someone. Can target opponents creatures too to surprise both and kill someone.

Glistening Oil infect.

Phyresis infect.

Hey there! Mushroom time is party time with these fun guys.

Okay to make up for the horrible pun I'm going to give some suggestions. You have a lot of spore counter buildup here, and these need cultivating time to reap the rewards. I'd recommend more Proliferate to accelerate how many spore counters you can get. You currently have three accelerants, Winding Constrictor, Karn's Bastion and Sporesower Thallid in the deck. How about Grim Affliction, Spread the Sickness, Plaguemaw Beast, Smell Fear, Evolution Sage, and Throne of Geth?

What is Tainted Strike in the deck for at the moment? It doesn't look like you capitalize on wither or poison counters with this deck, so I wouldn't route the deck down that road.

The Elvish Farmer is a nice spore counter addition, but card cost is high for something you can live without.

Would having a Barter in Blood interest you? I've noticed you don't have as many Black cards in the deck, and it'd be useful for more sac opportunities that also hurt your opponent.

I am all for budget decks and think this looks very promising without breaking the bank. Good job and happy harvesting.

What about an Ivy Lane Denizen with Scurry Oak or Herd Baloth to make infinite Tokens and a infinitely big creature. I see you run Craterhoof Behemoth but not a single token creater.Maybe some more Tutors would also help like Shared Summons which puts these to pieces at instant speed into your hand? Eventhough Shared Summons is a bit low powered considering that you run such a powerful Manabase. So maybe Worldly Tutor, Summoner's Pact or Survival of the Fittest instead? I'd probably cut Abundance, Triumph of the Hordes, The Great Aurora (since you only run 32 lands) and Managorger Hydra, since you run Forgotten Ancient already which is a strictly better version of Managorger Hydra. Also in terms of carddraw it seems like you could have some more. Maybe a Return of the Wildspeaker or Greater Good to be able to use these big creatures to keep on drawing into fuel. Maybe consider dropping the fight effects like Khalni Ambush  Flip and Smell Fear. They seem rather inconvenient without deathtouch even if they can easily be used as target removal, but i guess drawing into a wincon is worth more than getting rid of a creature?
