Melee

Instant

Play Melee only during your combat phase before blockers are declared.

Instead of defending player, you choose how each creature blocks this turn.

Whenever a creature attacks and isn't blocked this turn, untap it and remove it from combat.

legendofa all three a excellent ideas though Melee is already on chopping block since it a five mana instant which is a lot for a combat trick that said it deck is not exactly a good deck so it should be fine

How about Master Warcraft, Melee, and Odric, Master Tactician? They give you a solid level of battlefield control and forced blocking, with the first two being instant speed and Odric being more or less always on.

Melee is a great card for the deck. It was in my initial list.

It’s a little bit of a niche card, but in a mostly big-creature deck, and with the current angel insurgence, it might be worth considering Melee. If you find yourself log-jammed against another big flier deck this can be a very effective creature-based (like fight cards) removal in red. It’s good to have in your pocket when there’s really only one big flying threat, accompanied by manageable threats, that stalls you out. I think this would be more of a nice to have than a need, but fun to consider!

If you’ve got big creatures and extra mana, Melee can be pretty devastating. It costs 5, so it’s not free, but if you get a second (or third) attack it can be... disruptive ;p

Master Warcraft , General Jarkeld , Invasion Plans , and Melee can all dictate combat to your favor.

McToters Thank you for all the suggestions!

Melee looks like such an utter bomb, oh my god. Definitely adding that in. Can't wait to make what looks like a really really bad attack, and then drop Melee and be like "psych!"

Mogg Infestation and Disrupt Decorum look super fun and like the kind of wacky board wipe I love, so I'll definitely consider those!

I'd tried using Hoarding Dragon and Goblin Matron for a while, but honestly, tutoring so much kinda made me feel like the deck lost its freshness after a few games, so I took out Hoarding Dragon , and I'll probably skip out on the rest of the tutors. (I kept Goblin Matron and Moggcatcher because they're fun and way more interesting play-wise).

Trove of Temptation never feels worth it, tbh. I like swinging out with Stromgald, et al. and having to leave back blockers for a single extra mana (especially in a multiplayer game) feels really awkward play wise.

Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor seems flavorfully fun, yeah, and actually might be fun to work with. Varchild's War-Riders seems utterly AMAZING and is an instant include, honestly. Especially with Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor 's leaves the battlefield ability. That's some spicy synergy there. Honestly will probably try out both just for that synergy. Unfortunately, however, I don't think Brand grabs tokens put into play under the control of opponents.

Kindred Charge seems fun... except I have so many legendary creatures that I'm not sure it's worth it. For a finisher, it's great, I think. I'll consider it.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions, this was super duper helpful!

Sweet commander!

Melee may be right up your alley.

Mogg Infestation and Disrupt Decorum for pseudo-boardwipes—Mogg to unload more tokens with Purph or Tremors out.

Godo, Bandit Warlord , Inventors' Fair , Tamiyo's Journal , Hoarding Dragon for tutors if interested.

Trove of Temptation for some ramp.

I dont think this helps you at all but Varchild, Betrayer of Kjeldor could be interesting flavor for you. Varchild's War-Riders could also supply your opponents with creatures to encourage attacking you so you can block with your creatures. Kinda an odd way to pump your blockers. And if your worried about opponent’s boards getting out of hand with that there is always Brand but that may end up being A dead card in your hand unless if you decide to go that route even more.

Kindred Charge may also be of use.

+1
