Ironscale Hydra

Creature — Hydra

If a creature would deal combat damage to Ironscale Hydra, prevent that damage and put a +1/+1 counter on Ironscale Hydra.

Instead of the mana doublers, i would add something like Bear Umbra, untaps your land if you swing with your commander, plus totem armor. Get some protection aswell, Lightning Greaves Yeva, Nature's Herald (just cast commander straight back when he gets destroyed, keep it in your hand). maybe a few spells like Tamiyo's Safekeeping, Tyvar's Stand, Gaea's Gift, Momentous Fall, Shared Summons, Wrap in Vigor some other creatures i didnt think of before: Oracle of Mul Daya, Silverback Elder, Apex Devastator, Cultivator Colossus, Ghalta, Primal Hunger, Cankerbloom, Topiary Stomper, Regal Force

For cutting cards, i would just cut cards that arent creatures or synergize with creatures, or dont do alot most of the time. something like Exponential Growth is gonna be a dead card in your hand most of the times.

Also dont understand most artifacts in your deck. Diviner's Wand for example, 3 mana to cast, 3 to equip, 4 to draw 1 card, 10 mana to draw your first card, and 4 mana for each card after that doesnt seem worth it at all. Id also cut 1x Mirage Mirror, Staff of Compleation, Helm of the Host, Lithoform Engine, Book of Rass

Id also cut: Vigor, Ironscale Hydra, Seeker of Skybreak, Viridian Joiner, Nantuko Mentor

And i would add 4-5 lands. playing a land per turn is stronger then playing an arcane signet or sol ring and then miss a land drop. (id cut arcane signet and sol ring aswell, they are bad draws past t4)

I really want Steelbane Hydra in the deck so for now I am moving Ironscale Hydra to the Maybeboard.

Hey, what you have so far is a strong start at upgrading the precon for your first deck, nice Hammer of Nazahn upgrade.

Currently you need to cut 24 cards to get to 100 cards. Some advice is start with cutting some lands because 43 lands is too much. Reduce it to 36 and if you think you need more mana then add more low converted mana cost (CMC) ramp sources or draw sources instead of lands.

Some lands to consider cutting:

All these lands always enter the battlefield (ETB) tapped and you have other lands that always do this too, but those other lands are better than these.

The next cuts to consider are some high CMC cards to reduce the mana curve.

Further cuts are some cards that are not as good as others here or have similar or the same effects.

Heirloom Blade and Reflections of Littjara are tribal cards that care about only one type of creature. That's not the strategy here since you have many different creature types. Skyclave Cleric  Flip and Tangled Florahedron  Flip are double face cards (DFC) that can be lands or played as the front face of the card and that can be helpful. The problem is the front face of the card is not worth playing even though they might be lands. Bala Ged Recovery  Flip is an example of a good DFC upgrade since front face is a good card and the bonus is that could be a land.

Suppression Field is a powerful card, but it affects equipment equip costs since that's an activated ability. Even if you control Puresteel Paladin with metalcraft activated you still have to pay 2 mana to equip the equipment to a creature you control. Puresteel will reduce the equip cost to 0, but then Field makes you pay an additional 2 mana to activate the equip ability. If an equipment is in your hand and you cast it or already on the battlefield you can't free equip if you control Field.

You have ways to get around having to pay for equip with attach. Difference is you're not equipping when you attach an equipment to a creature you control. The key word here is attach which bypasses the need to activate equip. You can free attach an equipment with Galea, Kindler of Hope, Halvar, God of Battle  Flip or Hammer of Nazahn. With Galea only if you cast an equipment from the top of your library, with Halvar only if the equipment is already equipped to another creature you control and with Hammer only if you cast the equipment or the equipment ETB. Free attach has synergy with Suppression Field, but the interaction is limited.

Good luck with your deck.

Cards in the side that I think could work in the main are Dungrove Elder , Ambuscade , Rancor , Shield of the Oversoul , and maybe Ironscale Hydra . Cards that fit the general idea of the sideboard include Kogla, the Titan Ape , Mold Shambler , Reclamation Sage , and Yasharn, Implacable Earth . Other common SB options in these colors could be Stony Silence , Rest in Peace , Leyline of Sanctity , Selfless Spirit , Kor Firewalker , Rule of Law , Force of Vigor , Qasali Pridemage , and Scavenging Ooze .

At this point, this deck is far enough removed from the deathtouch lure plan that I think it could be worth swapping out those cards to go all-in on bogles or aura/hexproof instead. Cards like Slippery Bogle and Silhana Ledgewalker tend to pair well with aura buffs like Spirit Mantle and Ethereal Armor .

I might suggest either more elves for Elvish Warmaster , or to cut it entirely. Without any other elves, it is just a Bear! Mind Rot and Ironscale Hydra have no real synergy with deathtouch, and those could be cards you swap in for elves like Tajuru Blightblade . You might also consider better lands, such as Fabled Passage , or Slitherbore Pathway .
