Emiel, the Cursed

Legendary Creature - Phyrexian Unicorn

: Destroy target creature you control, then Incubate X, where X is the Mana Value of the destroyed creature.

Whenever another creature you control dies, you may pay . If you do, put a -1/-1 counter on target creature an opponent controls. If that creature was a Phyrexian, instead put two -1/-1 counters on up to two target creatures an opponent controls.

4/3

A sort of play on my boi Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and bringing homage to the classic Magic trend of "BLANK, The Cursed" variants of legends in early magic being "Compleated", i.e Mirri the Cursed and Crovax the Cursed.

I desire a Phyrexian creature from the plane Invasion of Xerex  Flip!

I love this! I had been planning a Sisay lore friendly deck for about three and a half months, but I never could decide whether I wanted to include cards like Yawgmoth, Thran Physician or Urza, Lord High Artificer which did get original border treatment and came out in the same set as Sisay; but to what extent does one involve the weatherlight crew when there were entire sets dedicated to their villains ( Crovax the Cursed, Volrath the Fallen, the Slivers as a whole on Rath and Dominaria, Tsabo Tavoc ) to what degree does flavor keep the deck from playable. Even now, remembering the lore, the Nine Titans, Eladamri, Lord of Leaves and Belbe, Corrupted Observer; all the prints of Squee alone! lol. There's just so much to go off of. So many strategies one could take and characters you could add.

To see a completed list, no matter how flavorful and thematic. It's a relief to see it doable.

There are just so many cards, and characters alone, from the sets, Weatherlight to Dominaria United, that are lore relevant to characters like Karn, or Gerrard. Urza alone got three sets to his name which include some of the largest staples in magic; some include later reference to the crew. Likewise with characters like Mangara who was in Mirage. It's just such an expansive story, I've got two one-subject notebooks literally just organizing cards specifically referenced in lore, story, literature, and trying to make a viable deck from it without using staples.

This delights me to no end! You've done the work and the deck looks great. If I ever manage to construct my deck list, would you be alright with me linking it here? Seeing you driven by the theme and flavor of the weatherlight is a touch inspiring.

I was going to try and in the 99 of my deck bring all the items to the Legacy Weapon which was largely constructed from Ramos, Dragon Engine and has nearly twelve cards alone just referencing the thing. Seeing this deck list, was really cool. Makes my day you could say.

Remove Soil

Instant

Cast this spell only during your opponent's draw step.

Target opponent reveals their hand. You choose a land card from it. That player exiles that card.

The mage pulled the stopper from his bottle... Torric was swept off his feet.

Colour-shift your favourite legendary, like Crovax the Cursed -> Crovax, Ascendant Hero.

A good trick for getting more punch out of Gyrus is to run guys who have more power than their printed stats might indicate. For instance, Arcbound Overseer has 0 power when he's in the graveyard, but as soon as you return him, he's attacking for 6! Other examples include Clockwork Dragon, Drakestown Forgotten, Nighthowler, Sewer Nemesis, Thought Gorger, Ignition Team, Crovax the Cursed, Spike Hatcher, Naya Soulbeast and Workhorse. Your opponents will be surprised how often "2 or less" won't feel like it!

Other cards that fit your general strategy include Grenzo, Dungeon Warden and Unearth, which can return a lot of the same cards as Gyrus. You might also want more removal, such as Bone Shredder, Ravenous Baboons and Garza's Assassin. Good luck!

Great idea!

Liliana definitely gives me some pretty big Yennefer vibes. Maybe a few copies of her would be good? Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip and Liliana of the Veil could work.

The Gitrog Monster could work well as the Ofiri prince in the sewers of Oxenfurt from the HoS DLC.

Necrophages are pretty easy to find in Black. I'm thinking of the new art on Carrion Feeder would work well, so would Phyrexian Ghoul. Wraiths of all kind are also pretty easy to find. Frozen Shade from 5th Edition, Chilling Shade, Liliana's Shade and Nightwing Shade all seem like good options.

Higher Vampires are also pretty easy, you can take your pick from tons of options. Maybe you could put in some legendary vampires that could represent Detlaff and Regis? Maybe Baron Sengir and Crovax the Cursed? Shauku, Endbringer looks like an Alp or Bruxa.

You need a horse and a boat! Sleek Schooner looks about right. There are a surprising amount of horses in Black and Green, the best of which are Nightmare, Timbermare and Vine Mare. Roach looks a bit more like Dusk Charger (minus the red eyes).

The Wild Hunt and the White Frost could be represented by a Snow subtheme. A handful of snow basics, Boreal Druid and Rimebound Dead could be a decent start, along with a few more things like Dead of Winter.

I'll give this some more thought later. Hopefully this gave you some ideas you like!

I am building one as well, but including more of the the older crew too. Crovax the Cursed & Squee, Goblin Nabob are gonna be GOOD buddies!

Ah two good examples as counterpoints, but allow me to rebut. Frilled Mystic is a Simic guild member/creature. Several Simic cards have multiple species to emphasize the guild’s focus on hybridization. E.g. Vorel of the Hull Clade . Mirri is a Planar Chaos’d Crovax the Cursed . That card comes from a time before the great subtype update, but similar cards, Irini Sengir being most notable, have Vampire X subtypes. This strikes me more as an exception to the rule for throwback/nostalgia/Planar Chaos “What-could’ve-been” reasons than anything else.
