Archweaver

Creature — Spider

Reach, trample.

Boza Really? Do you know how many Flying Men and vanilla 3/2s for 3 have been made?

Tons of random gain life taplands, vanilla creatures, or creatures with... trample or reach (or both like Archweaver , yeah that'll take days to code).

But SynergyBuild, tons of spells are in this game... like Firebolt or Advent of the Wurm , or complex multi-lined creatures like Ambush Krotiq .

While I understand there are complex cards, perhaps replacement effects like dredge, etc. could be difficult to make (but once done the code can be copied over from Darkblast to Golgari Thug ), and the mythics and walkers that need voices and animations can be difficult to get, but a vast majority are super easy to make. 50% could be done by just putting art and the keywords on the cards. Random discard spells, burn, countermagic, card draw, ramp, tutors, fatties, dorks, taplands, duals, etc. could all be so easy to make and the other 50% would just be cards with keywords like Battalion they'd create and copy between everything.

It can be done, and it may be a smart decision. However, the only spider with trample is Archweaver with a converted mana cost of 7. The most I would put in of it would be 2x. That and Prodigious Growth will have to do.

Thank you Frewsax for the interest in in the deck!

Wall of Vines is thematically a very "green" card, but there are reasons why I would not use it in this deck. We are mainly trying to ramp our mana, in order to cast our big creatures as quick as possible. We do have low CMC creatures, that serve to block the opponent in the early phases of the game. However, they also serve key secondary roles, either as ramp or as card draw. In short, the wall just doesn't do enough.

Also, Archweaver stabilizes the board in the later game when we can play it, and it is one of our main win conditions. Without the spiders, we would struggle once we got to the late game.

Of course, please experiment with the deck freely. The decks are designed to introduce people to the game, and experimenting with deck building is a fun part of the MTG experience.

Hi and thanks for commenting.I made some tweaks after playing Magic 2014 on my PS3 and getting into some challenges but I think I may have made the deck a little bit worse. Oakenform on a Deadly Recluse is cool, though.

Ambush Viper stays because I think of it as blue's "Counter target creature spell."I added the Young Wolf because I got frustrated not having any creatures able to block until I had more mana (in the VG at least).

I dropped most creatures to 3 or less, and Archweaver to 2. It's just too costly. Howlgeist costs less and might do more.

You look like you have a good start to a nice deck.

It seems you are looking at using landfall as a main mechanic in the deck. Yet you are missing a few of the big payout cards for landfall Avenger of Zendikar and Rampaging Baloths. There are a bunch of nice cards that go with landfall that can really put it over the top. Most of these are ramp spells, for example: Skyshroud Claim, Boundless Realms, Harrow, and Crop Rotation. The latter two being instants makes them great combat tricks.

Crop Rotation also gets me to another thing I noticed. You are running all basics. Try to expand with a few dual lands. Remember your commander can grab Temple Garden and Canopy Vista as well. This is great for fixing your mana so you don't get stuck missing a color. Fetches are great with land fall, this includes Evolving Wilds like cards.

Look at adding more card draw to the deck. At the moment I believe you have 5 cards, 2 of which do not create card advantage (they help everyone). This bring me to Diviner's Wand. This card seem out of place. You have one wizard in the deck so that's not why it's there. You don't draw that many cards so the +1/+1 isn't doing much and the card draw is expencive. That just leaves the flying part. If this is the only reason it's in the deck there are better options out there, for example Kitesail or Whispersilk Cloak.

Lastly I would take a look at your mana curve in the deck. It is very top heavy. Your average CMC is 4.58. Try to get this under 4.00. Look at your expensive creatures and cut the ones that don't really do much Archangel, Archweaver, and Goldnight Redeemer are a few cards to start with.

I hope this is helpful. If you want any more help on the deck let me know (I fell I've rambled enough for now). In the end it's YOUR deck do what YOU find fun.
