Why

I think it's interesting to make a machine that slowly kills your opponents by just playing creatures, but by not (or barely ever) attacking.

How

It means that I have to balance:

  • Building a machine that kills opponents by having creatures ETB
  • Stop opponents from breaking the machine
  • Stop opponents from killing me in the mean time/winning themselves

Any form of ETB doubling doubles the value I get, so that's good. Blinking or making temporary copies of creatures also create more ETB effects, so more good. Creature recursion also allows me to use my creatures defensively to block, rather than having to bounce them or otherwise save them so I can have them ETB again.

Giving my spells flash also allows me to more tactically choose when to use my ETBs to the greatest effect.

What

The deck just wants to start fast. It needs mana and cards to get the required combo pieces in play.

The deck is more likely to slowly whittle away at my opponents than to kill them outright. I think I need to fix that somehow, by either adding a way for the deck to do a big winning move (have a bunch of creatures ETB, or maybe something alternate that requires me to have a bunch of creatures), or by playing more politically and only dealing damage to one opponent at a time. I'm mostly writing that last option down because it currently both does and doesn't have Archenemy vibes, where it does kill everyone, but not in an obvious enough way that people do something about it. I'm also of course trying to not over-correct and become the enemy to such a degree that my opponents immediately go for Player Removal.

The side strategy is to buff my Wizards up and swing with them for the win. However, that's currently a very unlikely way for me to win, which I think is pretty much exactly how it's supposed to be.

I think the concept of this deck leads to making a stax deck with a slow wincon, which sounds like the worst of both worlds.
