Witty Roastmaster

Creature — Devil Citizen

Alliance — Whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control, this deals 1 damage to each opponent.

I have replaced Witty Roastmaster with Molten Gatekeeper, since the newer creature has encore.

I have replaced Witty Roastmaster with Molten Gatekeeper, because the latter creature has encore; I could have replaced Warleader's Call, as this deck has a strong focus on creatures, but the power/toughness increasing effect of the enchantment is immensely useful in a deck that focuses on generation tokens.

muzack - I finally got around to making those update I was talking about. I still am making edits to the deck but this was the first major revision. I played the deck twice at my LGS last night and it was an absolute powerhouse going 2 for 2 games in dominate fashion. First game Impact Tremors and Witty Roastmaster did work while Roaming Throne was triggering Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon's ability twice quickly dwindling down my opponents' health. The second game Anduril, Narsil Reforged quickly added extra +1/+1 counters to Anim Pakal early and a well timed Cathars' Crusade generated a army of absolute jacked gnomes that nearly sweep the game early.

Overall, I am very happy with how this deck has been turning out!

I have replaced Sylvan Library with Witty Roastmaster, which increased the average converted mana cost of this deck from 3.63 to 3.65, and I understand that I have removed an excellent source of card advantage, but I do not believe that this deck has sufficient amounts of lifegain to reliably pay for the library's ability, plus the devil has excellent synergy with this deck's main strategy, so I am satisfied that this is change is worth the increased mana cost.

Crow_Umbra on Token Legion

In case you hadn't seen yet, but Caesar, Legion's Emperor is live on the site now.

If you're looking for a potential infinite combat combo, Aggravated Assault + Phyrexian Altar + Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon at 5+ power (or just enough token production on attack tbh).

Hellrider and Brutal Hordechief are some fun go-wide group slug options. Witty Roastmaster is another Impact Tremors effect, but might not be as necessary since you already have Corpse Knight.

Devilish Valet could also work to potentially one-shot somebody with enough creature token creation on an attack.

I'd also highly recommend Dolmen Gate and/or Reconnaissance as board protection effects. I get that you have some aristocratsy stuff going on, but this is mostly to save some of your key token creators that have to attack. In case you're unfamiliar with Reconnaissance, this EDHREC article helps detail some of its timing to act as a pseudo-Vigilance anthem, and save your creatures from combat after they've dealt damage.

Your deck looks pretty fun. I run Anim Pakal in the 99 of one of my decks, and have enjoyed how she plays. In looking at your deck, I do have a few recommendations for consideration:

Hope these suggestions are to your liking.

Crow_Umbra on Isshin, Two Combats as One

Thanks for checking my deck out, I appreciate it! No prob, happy to help.

Some of your swaps look pretty good. I would still recommend to try some lower cmc rocks than Chromatic Orrery. That 7 cmc can be a bit steep for ramp that's supposed to help set up more on earlier turns. Even Cursed Mirror could be a cool option since it can ETB as a copy of any creature and act as ramp.

If you want to round out your go-wide theme a bit more, I'd recommend Commissar Severina Raine as another group slug option that can also act as a draw piece.

Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation  Flip is pretty cool. If you want to lean into the group slug damage stuff, give Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might  Flip another look. Most of the ping damage in the group slug stuff is 1-2 damage, so Ojer Axonil would bump that up to 4. Most of the group slug/ping options used by Isshin decks are Red. Speaking of which, Impact Tremors, Witty Roastmaster, and Purphoros, God of the Forge are all great options if you're going to be cranking out creature tokens.

Mondrak, Glory Dominus has been really solid for me as a token doubler and solid attacker/defender from the Indestructible counter. Mondrak also has a bit more versatility than Ojer Taq, since it can double all your tokens, although tripling creature tokens is pretty cool.

If you like the deathtouch anthem from Ankle Shanker, def check out Vault of the Archangel and Kaya, Geist Hunter. Kaya is also another token doubler that is a more budget option than both Mondrak and Ojer Taq.

Best of luck with your deck. Keep me posted on how it works out for you

Crow_Umbra on Multiman Isshin

Nice to see more Myriad Isshin lists. I feel like it's a growing sub-variant of the token go-wide Isshin strat. In looking at your deck, I think you have a lot of great pieces that most Isshin decks would want, but I do have a few suggestions:

  • Your land count is kinda low at 30. I get that your Equipments are intended for protective and aggro purposes, but I think they may be mana intensive for that purpose. Since Isshin wants to go wide, I'd recommend swapping some of your equipment (but not Feast and Famine lol) for a few more lands and 2 cmc mana rocks. It's a personal preference thing, but totally ignore if it hasn't been an issue in your irl plays.

  • On the topic of protection and going wide, I think Unbreakable Formation and Scapegoat are some great budget board protection effects. Clever Concealment is a slightly more budget friendly alternative to Teferi's Protection, but can still be pricey for some. Having some instant speed board protection options can be more helpful than protecting one creature at a time. Isshin thrives on maintaining aggro momentum, instead of protecting single creatures like a Voltron strat might.

  • I highly recommend putting in some ETB group slug damage like Impact Tremors, Corpse Knight, or Witty Roastmaster. Purphoros, God of the Forge is the most expensive upgrade you can make in this theme, but the first 3 mentioned will do plenty of damage with all your doubled up Myriad. From having played Isshin go-wide for the past year, I highly recommend the ETB damage to help your overall gameplan.

  • Professional Face-Breaker could be helpful and compliment the Treasure producers you already have in deck.

  • Devilish Valet could be a potentially heavy hitter with all your Myriad tokens you make each swing.

I hope these suggestions are a helpful start. Happy to chat through any additional suggestions if you're up for it. Best of luck with your deck!
