HELP: Esper Exile Brew

Standard Deck Help forum

So with the new escape mechanic looking to be pretty integral in Standard once THB releases, I was thinking of putting together an Esper build with a focus on exiling opponent’s cards.

My first ideas for cards to build around: Ashiok, Dream Render , Unmoored Ego , Ashiok, Nightmare Muse , and Thief of Sanity .

The goal of this deck will be to aggressively mill, defend oneself and play cards from opponent’s exile. I feel as though the potential is there. I need someone to help me finish it.

EDIT: I chose esper and not just Dimir because of how many cards in white that have exile power right now.

Is this going to be a deck that aims to use these cards you exile or just mill them out for the win condition?

Without a doubt cards like Codex Shredder and Pyxis of Pandemonium come to mind when its a direct mill to exile effect. However, depending how big your budget can be, you can run something simple like Muddle the Mixture to transmute for Rest in Peace to turn ordinary mill cards such as Glimpse the Unthinkable and Mind Grind and Rest in Peace will then exile them. The more expensive side of things you could play Enlightened Tutor to hit your Rest in Piece as well as Helm of Obedience. Helm of Obedience Rest in Peace is an infinite mill loop for one player at a time...

Starting with a typical U/B mill shell like say, Phenax, God of Deception and using staple cards from there to then encorperate that into an Esper shell.

As far as a Commander goes, something like Sharuum the Hegemon to grab back Altar of the Brood and Mindcrank would not be a terrible option as well. I can see Sydri, Galvanic Genius being a respectable option too! Needless to say, Esper has MANY MANY options to pull from in terms of combo, strategy and cardpool.

Sincerely hope this helped!

Make sure to use a good amount of Prison Realm and the reprint of Banishing Light to really get value out of some of these exile cards, but the real kicker is Kaya, Orzhov Usurper . Not a huge fan of Unmoored Ego mainboard even for these decks, but I recommend a few sideboard easily. Legion's End is premium removal for this list, and Ashiok's Erasure is particularly strong as well.

SynergyBuild thanks for the suggestions! I feel like it could at least be in the top 10 of the current meta with how it could easily remove threats from the game.

The problem is there is too many 3 drops for this deck. Lower the curve by adding:

Glass Casket , Epic Downfall , Despark , Revoke Existence , Yarok's Fenlurker

Here is a list of all cards that mention exile in standard, including all Theros spoilers:

Future standard exile

If you want to take this to modern, here is an esper exile list:

I'm currently working on an esper exile deck as well. Currently using cards I own till I can go buy others but I've added these.

Kaya, Orzhov Usurper using her +1 to exile and -5 to deal damage.

The Wanderer as an exile tactic.

Etrata, the Silencer as unlockable damage plus exile. And if it plays right an alt wincon.

Man, I'd definitely use Erebos's Intervention. FANTASTIC card with the ability to kill indestructible creatures and gain life and has an other option to exile cards in graveyard! Perfect for you!!
