Horde of Notions and Evoke ability

Asked by DreamTool 3 years ago

Let's say I have Horde of Notions on the battlefield and a card with the Evoke mechanism in the graveyard (let's say Wispmare ). Can I use Horde of Notions' ability to play Wispmare from the graveyard, but use only one white mana to cast it for its evoke cost? If yes, will I end up with 4 mana left? Thank you very much.

Gatherer has the exact answer to your question: "10/1/2007 This ability does not allow you to pay the evoke cost of the targeted Elemental card." To expand on that, abilities that allow you to cast things without paying their mana costs don't generally allow you to pay alternate costs with the same ability. For instance, if you played Omniscience you would be able to cast Sawtusk Demolisher for free, but if you wanted to mutate it onto something you'd still have to pay the mutate cost because it's an alternate cost. Hope this helps!

No. When you use Horde of Notions' ability, you cannot pay alternate costs, like Evoke. Also, regardless of the cost of Elemental, you pay , there is no mana leftover.

From Gatherer: 10/1/2007 This ability does not allow you to pay the evoke cost of the targeted Elemental card.
