I want to see a dedicated desert deck.

It deeply saddens me that the first desert-centric commander isn't from Amonkhet. :(

Hazezon is pretty cool, though, so I guess it's alright. Lol

Shanna is the only one that jumps out at me. Bant tymna essentially. I'll end to trying it, but bant wincons are unexciting, so I'll have to see what makes the most sense.

Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile is the only way yet to play WUBRG Lurrus of the Dream-Den. This should definitely be noted.

There are propably like 10 deserts that work with Hazezon. This isn't great, but it can be done. Shefet Monitor, Crop Rotation and Tempt with Discovery really need to be in there, as well as multiple ways to recover those deserts.

Words of Whatever is definitely fun with Shanna. I have no current ideas here.

Living Twister can take your deserts back to hand to replay them, Ruin Ghost can flicker them, Crucible of Worlds/Ramunap Excavator/Splendid Reclamation+Sylvan Safekeeper to return them from graveyard, Ancient Greenwarden to make more tokens per desert drop. Hour of Promise finally to be used as intended.

Looking at them all now, I never realized that most deserts have a sacrifice ability. This plays in really nicely to Hazezon's graveyard ability. The three cycling deserts work really well with him, too.

I'm just hoping that after 20+ years, we finally get the Naya Sand tokens

If you animate someone like Hostile Desert, you can use any number of the ways within Naya to make a token copy of it and blow your boardstate apart with land tokens and 1/1 Sand Warrior tokens.

Well as an example, Flamerush Rider would make a token copy of it if both he and your land attack.

The token triggers Hazoren to make two more Sand Warriors.

While that token will be exiled, a Parallel Lives or Anointed Procession will make a copy of it which will stick around. And additionally, being a Desert, it'll also make two 1/1s.

And your doubling enchantments will also double those Sand Warriors, too.

So you'd land 2x Desert creatures and 8x Sand Warriors (4 for each).

When the Desert token is exiled, you retain the copied token and all 8 Sand Warriors. And because that Desert token is a copy of the original, which is still a land by its own decree, it means you now have land tokens in play.

Admittedly you're going into full blown Timmy territory here, but that's where all the fun's at ;)

Anointed Procession's rules text says: "if the effect creating the tokens instructs you to do something with those tokens at a later time, like exiling them at the end of combat, you'll do that for all the tokens."

What actually happens if you attack with a Flamerush Rider and an animated Hostile Desert while you have Hazezon and Anointed Procession out:

Flamerush Rider triggers, to copy Hostile Desert.

You make two token copies of Hostile Desert, which will be tapped lands (not creatures, but you can pay the cost to animate them too. Since they enter as lands, they won't be attacking)

Those two token copies of lands will trigger Hazezon, Anointed Procession gives you 2x2 warriors per land, so 8 Sand Warriors total.

At the end of combat, you'll have to exile your two tapped land token copies.

For Jenson, I've really wanted to build a WUBRG voltron deck for a while centering around Niv-Mizzet, but Jenson may honestly be a better fit.

Dimir Infiltrator once again is a star pick for the deck.

TheOfficialCreator as far as the second trigger, how many WUBRG spells can u cast in a regular edh game to get those tokens? i mean there are several easier ways to get angels, its like, the more i look at him the more im like....ok hes not that good actually. btw voltron 5c...why not kenrith?

August 29, 2022 12:53 p.m.

I don't like Kenrith XD

August 29, 2022 12:55 p.m.

I just mainly want to see Hazezon, Shaper of Sand altered into a sandbender from Avatar. That would make me want to run at least 1.5x more. :)

For Hazezon, Must includes for me would be Gauntlets of Chaos and Harmless Offering So I could take advantage of the Desertwalk ability.

For Jeron Carthalion, Door to Nothingness due to Jeron making the ability easier to activate and Seraph Sanctuary for the lifegain would be my must includes.

For Shanna, I'd be looking to weaponize the second ability through cards including, but not limited to, Chasm Skulker and Psychosis Crawler. This card could make Bant mill formidable. Elementalist's Palette and Unbound Flourishing would be must includes.

plakjekaas, TypicalTimmy, if you have an Sundial of the Infinite or something that creates a similar turn ending effect, I believe you'd be able to keep your tokens.
