Large Hedron Collider

A lot of things can happen with Zada, Hedron Grinder on the field, and sometimes it can end rather explosively.

To win, get lots of creatures, draw lots of cards, and play any combo or swing for lethal.

There are a number of cards that I feel deserve special attention (possibly because many other deck lists do not include them):

• Crack the Earth: Many people have probably realized that arcane spells can be pretty fun with Zada, but this card, when you splice Overblaze or Strange Inversion onto it, can knock your opponents out of the game.

• Embodiment of Fury: Because creature count is so important, having a land become 3/3 with trample and haste definitely has value. However, this card truly shines when you cast Heat Shimmer , Twinflame, or Chaos Warp on Zada.

• Sundial of the Infinite: Allowing many of your copy and clone effects to stick around is what this card is all about. Chandra, Flamecaller , Feldon of the Third Path, Heat Shimmer , Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Splinter Twin, and Twinflame all combo with this card.

• Dragon Tempest: Without support, this card doesn't do much, but it adds value to Eldrazi Monument and turns Descent of the Dragons into a game ender. Dragon Whisperer and Utvara Hellkite also get added value from this card.

• Mindmoil: This card lets you cycle through your deck, chaotically making for more consistent play. Not always easy to play around, but definitely allows you more chances to find a spell to quickly end the game.

Dragons

Who doesn't like dragons. They are big. They fly. They breath fire...

...They combo: Dragon Tempest + Seize the Day + Utvara Hellkite and Descent of the Dragons + Dragon Tempest .

The dragon theme revolves around a few cards:

• Utvara Hellkite is fine on its own, but with Zada and Seize the Day or Blades of Velis Vel , you have a potential game winning combo whose effects stick around and only get stronger the longer it stays on the field.

• Descent of the Dragons is a powerful card, but really shines if used after a Twinflame or Spawning Breath, and can get rid of opponents creatures as well if you don't mind them getting a dragon in return. With Dragon Tempest out, you only need 7 creatures to deal lethal damage to an opponent, which is more efficient than Burn at the Stake.

• Blades of Velis Vel works with or without the other dragon cards, and even has some synergy with Krenko, Mob Boss. Since I am light on pump spells, and this card performs many different functions, this is a very versatile tool.

Alternate Cards

The Following is a list of cards I have enjoyed using in past versions of the deck. Do not be afraid to use these.

• Knowledge Pool / Possibility Storm: Knowledge Pool pretty silly with Possibility Storm out, and sometimes you can take advantage of your opponent's cards. Both of these work well with Goblinslide . Both Possibility Storm and Knowledge Pool can effectively double the number of times you can trigger Zada, Hedron Grinder, but Knowledge Pool lets you trigger it twice with the same spell, and also lets you take advantage of your opponent's spells that it exiles. In the end, though, the real reason to run them is to make things more confusing for everyone.

• Arcbond: This is nobodies favorite way to lose, but getting people mad at you for winning with this card isn't likely to happen...This card is used mostly because stopping someone else from winning is sometimes more important than winning.

• It That Betrays / Goblin Assassin : I love this combo, but having enough mana to get it out can be a challenge. It That Betrays interacts with Goblin Assassin and Crack the Earth to let you steal other people's toys.

• Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded: Not the best planeswalker around, but he is quite good if you can activate his 3rd ability. I like him because he works so well with what a Zada deck wants to do.

• Furystoke Giant: Has Persist, will ETB. if you want some noncombat damage, either to burn away some troublesome creatures or direct damage to your opponents, this card is hard to beat. Interacts well with Mark of Mutiny and Overblaze .

• Thermopod /Treasonous Ogre: More mana, more spells. pretty simple logic. Treasonous Ogre is especially strong in the right situation. if you get it early enough, you could pay up to 39 of your life for up to 13 red mana. There are a lot of ways to win with 13 red mana to start off with, and suicidal lack of caution is the name of the game here.

Thermopod is a bit more versatile than Skirk Prospector, and a creature, which Phyrexian Altar is not. Phyrexian Altar is likely just fine for this deck, but Thermopod is thematically more appealing to me.

• Glaring Spotlight: Provides a free pass through a well defended field or hexproof for a turn. Not too exciting, but a good tool for anyone who prefers to win through combat.
