Ever wanted to ramp 5 for 2 with a card that's been at the bottom of the bargain bin for the last 10 years? Maybe make use of those old timmy cards that cost way too much mana to ever be activated? Maybe just looking for a new take on voltron? Well, behold! Vhal, Candlekeep Researcher is here with one of the most overlooked and underappreciated abilities to hit the format in recent years.

I was going through uncommon creatures for the sake of pEDH when I came across an old pet card, Ghosthelm Courier, a member of an old sub-archetype consisting of five creatures, one of each color. Each supports a different tribe with a +2/+2 buff and a keyword native to their color. Out of all of them, though, I think Ghosthelm Courier is the only one to stand the test of time. Instant-speed shroud is already quite good, but the fact that it also buffs stats and can be toggled off makes it a genuine worthwhile payoff considering the cost. Wizards are a diverse archetype so I figured building around it wouldn't feel too stale. Surprisingly, there are two Wizards that care about stats: Vadrik, Astral Archmage (which I feel has been done to death & would limit deckbuilding potential) and the D&D nerd Vhal, Candlekeep Researcher.
