Altar of the Brood appeared in a draft cube my friend assembled, and I made a surprisingly effective mill deck based on this little mechanic. I spoke with him later after finding my Memnite and Ornithopter playsets and thought, "Wouldn't these with that work well?" He had his doubts until I recalled a little card called Kuldotha Rebirth . My eyes lit up and he agreed, that would be nasty.

Some Shriekhorn seems basic but Tezzeret's Gambit will give you at least one more use, and the empty artifact makes another juicy target to turn into goblins. Thopter Spy Network handles token generation and conditional draw, but Sphinx's Tutelage allows targeted milling, which will help in multi-player games to eliminate specific threats.

Well wait, what if they have an answer in their deck against milling the whole thing? Let Memoricide fix that problem in the second game, or if you're paranoid, slip in a Surgical Extraction to your mainboard beforehand. Mill just not fast enough? Substitute the mill elements for Pia's Revolution and Disciple of the Vault. Force the damage on your opponents more directly by throwing Pia and Kiran Nalaar in. It's a spendy way to burn, but it works very well with the artifact generation going.

It does take a certain kind of hand to start, but if you have even one Altar of the Brood in your opening hand, it gets fun fast. Turn 2: Either Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse, opponents mill 2. Memnite for 0, Kuldotha Rebirth with that untapped Mountain (ideally) and by the end of turn you've made everyone mill 6. When the hand starts to get low, your draw cards save the day with more low-cost drops.
