Maybeboard

Why shoplifter? because this deck is all about not paying for things.

The deck is loaded with big mana burn spells like Shivan Meteor, Explosive Singularity, and Into the Maw of Hell which combo beautifully with Imodane, the Pyrohammer's ability to turn that single target damage into damage that hits all of our opponents. The plan is to cast these spells without spending any mana on them, by using the abilities of cards like Galvanoth, Izzet Chemister, and Etali, Primal Storm.

We also have a few cards that can cast spells for free when our creatures make contact and deal combat damage to a player. To ensure that Wildfire Eternal, Efreet Flamepainter, and Surge to Victory aren't foiled by pesky blockers, we run a couple of cards that can either make them unblockable (Goblin Smuggler, Pathmaker Initiate, Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner) or just stop our opponents from blocking at all (Barrage of Boulders, Cosmotronic Wave, and Hazardous Blast).

The only thing better than getting a big splashy spell for free, is getting multiple versions of it for free, so we have plenty of cards in here that can copy our big damage dealers, such as Double Vision, Dualcaster Mage, Increasing Vengeance, and Reverberate. More copies are always better, so Repeated Reverberation and Radiant Performer are the starts of the show. They may be a bit pricier than our other copy spells, but when you're getting a 10 mana spell for free, paying four or five for a few more copies is a price we're more than willing to pay.

And it's not just the number of spells that we get to double, it's also the damage they deal. Angrath's Marauders, Dictate of the Twin Gods, Furnace of Rath, and Quest for Pure Flame can all double the damage we're dishing out, making our 10 or 13 damage spells hit for 20 or 26 instead, and the best part is that Imodane's damage is also doubled, which means a single cast of Shivan Meteor will deal 52 damage to every opponent. Cast that with a copy, and even the most hardcore lifegain deck is probably plummeting straight to 0.

We've got a fair amount of ramp in this deck, and it's not uncommon to be able to hard-cast a big spell if the game runs long enough. We also have a lot of discard/draw effects, which are helpful for ensuring we draw our cards quickly and toss out unwanted duplicates, while also letting us get cards into the graveyard, which is great for spells like Increasing Vengeance and a hard requirement for Efreet Flamepainter.

Don't worry too much about tossing a spell in the graveyard though. Charmbreaker Devils and Ardent Elementalist are more than capable of fetching back anything we might desperately need, although the devils aren't exactly precise.
