It's been a little while since my last brew and I really liked the look of Sultai Emerge zombies from the last standard. The deck didn't lose too much (pain lands are a big loss) but Kaladesh has brought with it some new goodies to play with.

This is the deck that I took to FNM on the first week of Kaladesh standard and went 2-2 (1 win was a buy). Although not spectacular results, the deck was a lot of fun to play and with a few tweaks could become a ton better.

The main synergy is around recurring beaters Scrapheap Scrounger, Prized Amalgam and Haunted Dead along with a few cards to fill up the graveyard and some emerge creatures for late-game.

At the moment I am looking to drop Evolving Wilds and make some improvements to the sideboard. Any comments or suggestions on this specifically would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a break down of the card choices.

Creatures Show

The meat of the deck.

Cryptbreaker Has a lot of promise. Something to do on turn 1, pilots Smuggler's Copter and enables turn 3 Voldaren Pariah  , discard outlet and late game draw engine. FOR 1 MANA!

Smuggler's Copter - While not technically a creature on it's own, this guy does a ton of work in this deck. Something to do on turn 2, becomes a 3/3 with evasion and helps cycle through our deck.

Wharf Infiltrator - Inconspicuous but this guy does a TON of work on this deck. An early creature with evasion, helps cycle through the deck and fill our graveyard AND adds a mid-game mana sink on top. Enables turn 3 Voldaren Pariah  

Scrapheap Scrounger - A new toy to play with from Kaladesh, this guy provides a strong body for 2 mana with recursion as well!

Prized Amalgam - A simple 3/3 for 3 but with a very relevant ability that the rest of the deck centers around. A decent beater which recurs for free helps to grind out games.

Haunted Dead - Extremely good enabler for Prized Amalgam,brings along a spirit (which is a fantastic pilot for Smuggler's Copter and amazing fodder for our emerge cards, Haunted Dead is very much the glue to gold the rest of the deck together.

Voldaren Pariah   - Evasive beater and removal in one neat little package. Can be played on turn 3 with help from Wharf Infiltrator and can also help power some emerge cards.

Wretched Gryff - An evasive body which draws a card and can be played on the cheap thanks to the other fodder cards.

Distended Mindbender - A large beater which shreds our opponent's hand.

Non-Creature Show

Some support to help push for the win.

Sinister Concoction - A turn 1 play which helps enable the other pieces of the deck and is efficient removal too boot!

Liliana, the Last Hope - An amazing walker which helps this deck immensely. The +1 can be removal or enable better trades. -2 fills the grave and nets some value. The ultimate gives this deck inevitability against slower control decks.

Lands Show

Mainly basics and color fixing, but a few notable lands.

Westvale Abbey   - With the amount of fodder in this deck, Westvale Abbey   gives a very real win con for very little cost.

Sideboard Show

Still very much a work in progress at the meta starts to change after rotation.

Harsh Scrutiny - A very potent discard card which can also help improve our early game draws.

Dark Salvation - A decent mid-late game card which can act as removal and help go wide

Negate - Improves the control match up and provides a reactive way to deal with planeswalkers

Grasp of Darkness - Efficient removal to help deal with Archangel Avacyn and the like.

Collective Brutality - Discard, removal and life swing all in one!

Transgress the Mind - Proactive removal for otherwise unkillable threats and also provides early information on our opponent's hand

Lost Legacy - An extremely powerful 'Lobotomize' effect which can remove any annoying cards from our opponent's deck

Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet - Powerful mid-game creature which can eat up Prized Amalgam or Haunted Dead for value. Also hates on any opposing graveyard strategies.

Summary Dismissal - An expensive but very powerful counterspell which has the rare effect of removing spells and abilities straight off the stack.

Geralf's Masterpiece - An evasive beater with recursion.

Ob Nixilis Reignited - Unconditional removal and card draw on legs. The emblem is a viable alternate win-con vs control decks.

Maybeboard Show

Cards which I'm currently considering.

Indulgent Aristocrat - Lifelinking body and sacrifice outlet

Night Market Lookout - Turn 1 play that pilots Smuggler's Copter and helps drain our opponent.

Relentless Dead - Evasive 2 drop, relevant creature type and synergy with Przied Amalgam.

Mindwrack Demon - Large evasive beater with a "downside" of filling up our graveyard. Current deck list makes enabling delirium a little bit difficult.

Geier Reach Sanitarium - A land which also acts as card cycling.
