Sideboard

A "Five-Color" () Domain Zoo deck built following the release of Murders at Karlov Manor (2024).

This deck is built around a couple different concepts, but mostly it's meant to improve upon an existing Archetype.

Domain

The Domain Ability involves the number of basic lands you have at your disposal and for the record, that number is 5.

(Wastes is technically a Basic Land. Although recent in terms of the last 30 years of game development, it's a rather important distinction for our ability.)

The issue comes from the fact that Wastes technically has no type line of Basic Land. It simply exists as a Basic Land, but there's no definition to it. Whereas the core 5 each were given a name (and that's also the corresponding typing).

This deck initiates a concept of exploiting that very mechanic (Domain) by using cards already long known such as Tribal Flames and Territorial Kavu.

An Aggro shell (hence it's labeled as a Zoo Deck) built around making the most out of the creatures involved, the deck has some built in protection pieces that provide a little Resilience.

Leyline Binding is effectively cast for on your turn 1 when on-the-draw, and otherwise meta staples such as Royal Treatment can help hold the line.

The deck intends to exploit newly printed cards from Murders at Karlov Manor (2024) named Leyline of the Guildpact and Case of the Shattered Pact.

Domain Zoo

Historically a deck known as 'Domain Zoo' has existed that uses cards like Nishoba Brawler and Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer.

Zoo decks as a whole tend to be Naya () colored or Temur () colored, but can include the full spectrum of the Magic Color Wheel.

The card that defined my construction was the printing of Leyline of the Guildpact, because of it's Turn Zero capability. Otherwise, the remainder of the cast is typical Zoo frenzy feasting.

Most of my updated tactics and evolution will be detailed in the Updates tab on the deck page. Anything further will probably be discourse in the comments among users.

Updates Add

After some frank discussion with user NoobNoob275 he recommended the following changes, and I will also detail my rebuttal commentary:

  1. Needing to flood the mainboard with counterspell capability, and at that, free spells. So Stubborn Denial comes out of the board in favor of Force of Negation.

  2. Monastery Swiftspear was slowing the build (wild) and so, I needed to rebuild the slot with something that would facilitate ramp, along with fodder to the Force cards. So oddly, Lorien Revealed does both. I don't like that at a glance it does what it needs to for such a useless card that I won't cast, but the cycling ability alongside the pitch to Force is exactly what I needed.

  3. Basic lands weren't helping my cause, and a few triomes coupled with some fetchlands really help streamline the domain activation if I miss my guildpact turn zero. This is where Windswept Heath became more relevant and replaced Verdant Catacombs. Also, a single copy of Misty Rainforest really helped bump up the capability to hit all of my colors as fast as possible for effect.
