Overview Show

This deck has two main plans to win. Either infect each opponent to death, or set up an infinite turn engine using artifacts and Planeswalkers. These plans are supported and powered by Proliferate mechanics, which increases loyalty and poison counters. There is incidental +1/+1 counter action going on, and creatures can sometimes get real big like this, but this is not a primary focus of the deck.

Atraxa herself is a threatening commander, serving as great blocker to protect Planeswalkers, an intimidating attacker, has life-gain, and proliferates each turn.

There used to be more prison style cards like in here like Tangle Wire, Parallax Tide, Parallax Wave, and Humility to stall and lock opponents out while still using Planeswalkers. While this strategy is kind of strong and "fun", Poison, Toxic, and Proliferate are faster, more dynamic, and more aggressive strategies, where prison and stall are more defensive.

With all the new Poison and Proliferate support from the new Phyrexia set, Poison has become a stronger and more viable gameplan in EDH. This deck used to be much more Planeswalker focused, but I've concentrated them down to what I think are the strongest, and have been able to include more creatures, which both defend Planeswalkers and can poison and/or proliferate, for a more dynamic deck.

It's important, and I think fun, to find the balance between Planeswalkers, Poison, and Proliferate. Too much or too little of any of these mechanics can either lack synergy or be too vulnerable in certain ways. There are many good Planeswalkers, and proliferate and poison cards that I haven't included, mostly due to mana cost and trying to balance these mechanics... Overall though, I think that these mechanics work well with each other, and make for a fun, dynamic, and interesting piloting experience, although other people might not like playing against it...

Planeswalkers Show

There used to be 20 or 30 Planeswalkers in here, and although I've reduced the number to make room for Poison cards, I consider the same things when choosing which Planeswalkers to include, which is based mainly on three things: the ability to exile or destroy permanents, powerful ultimates, or other particularly powerful or synergistic abilities such as proliferating and such, or taking extra turns. A lot of the removal in this deck is based in the Planeswalkers...

Oko

Oko, Thief of Crowns is just Oko. Great Commander removal, or anything removal, overall just kind of broken.

Kasmina

Kasmina, Enigma Sage is kind of cool, and can help initiate some infinite-turn combos.

Giving all Planeswalkers an additional +2 ability is cool.

What's coolest though is, with her -8 ability, she lets black Planeswalkers play Demonic Tutor or any of the "each opponent gets a poison counter" cards from the deck, and it lets blue Planeswalkers play Karn's Temporal Sundering and Nexus of Fate, which can set up infinite-turn loops...

Tamiyo

Tamiyo, Field Researcher's ultimate is so powerful. It's Omniscience on an emblem, and it draws three cards each time it's activated.

Ultimates immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Ajani

Ajani Steadfast and Ajani, the Greathearted act as pseudo Proliferate, and also put 1+/+1 counters on your creatures.

Ajani Unyielding can ultimate to pseudo Proliferate five times. He also acts as card draw and creature removal.

Ajani, Sleeper Agent is super strong and can ulimate quickly. It's a great way to kill people with poison counters. It can also draw cards, and distribute +1/+1 counters.

Tezzeret

Tezzeret the Seeker is part of a combo-win. It can tutor up the cards Empowered Autogenerator and The Chain Veil to produce infinte mana and infinite loyalty ability activation, and then tutor for Ichormoon Gauntlet to take infinite turns.

Empowered Autogenerator needs to have four counters on it for this to work, and it comes into play tapped, so it doesn't necessarily go off immediately. But Tezzeret and Teferi can untap artifacts to help speed this up, as well as cards like Pir, Imaginative Rascal, Oath of Teferi, and Doubling Season. Astral Cornucopia can serve the same purpose as the Autogenerator here once is has four counters on it, but it can't be tutored for with Tezzeret, as it would eneter with 0 counters on it...

Kaya

Kaya the Inexorable is a very strong and resilient Planeswalker. Can exile a permanent, great. Can protect important creatures like Vorniclex and Atraxa etc., great.

Emblem not only lets you cast a legendary spell from hand or graveyard for free each turn, but IS ALSO an infinite-turn combo with Karn's Temporal Sundering!

Liliana

Liliana, Dreadhorde General's ultimate wins games.

Ultimates immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Teferi

Teferi, Master of Time and Teferi, Timebender take extra turns, and as long as you can get enough counters on them each turn with Proliferate or something else, you can take infite turns and win.

Teferi, Timebender ultimates immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Teferi, Temporal Archmage can be a little clunky, but can help in establishing combos with Magistrate's Scepter, and Empowered Autogenerator and The Chain Veil. It can help with ramp, although it's not early ramp... This ultimate is kind of like Lighthouse Chronologist for Planeswalkers, and can help get to ultimates other Planeswalkers, and take extra turns, etc.

Vraska

Vraska, Betrayal's Sting and Vraska, Relic Seeker are similar.

They both have removal, and they're ultimates basically kill one player...

Ultimates immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Other Planeswalkers...

Garruk, Unleashed is pretty easy to ultimate, and once you have that Emblem you can start to put Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider, Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus, and Pir, Imaginative Rascal and Lae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion into play, or Captain Sisay to start tutoring for Legendary cards... Garruk's first ability can also buff Infect creatures and Atraxa for attacks. Ultimates immediately with Doubling Season or Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider.

Tezzeret, Artifice Master is kind of a better Garruk, Unleashed.

Poison Show

This deck used to be much more Planeswalker centric, but with the new Phyrexia sets there have been a lot of poison upgrades, specifically cards that give each opponent a poison counter like Phyresis Outbreak and Prologue to Phyresis, as well as cards with Toxic that also Proliferate.

I figured that putting Poison in the deck would make it faster, while also creating alternate win conditions and ways to take out problem opponents.

Also, before with so many Planeswalkers, the deck needed to be more defensive so I included more tax/stall cards, but I took many of those out, as well as a good amount of Planeswalkers to make room for Poison cards.

Cards that give each opponent a poison counter, like Phyresis Outbreak and it's counterparts are so strong, I think.

Extra Turns Show

Teferi, Master of Time, and Teferi, Timebender, are the two main extra-turn engines. Ideally you can Proliferate or otherwise add enough counters to these Planeswalkers each turn to be able to ultimate them each turn, getting infinite turns.

Magistrate's Scepter functions similarly to the Teferis, but requires less Proliferation per turn to go infinite. It can be awkward to get that first counter on to the Scepter, and then wait a turn cycle, but it often pays off. Teferi, Timebender, Teferi, Temporal Archmage, and Tezzeret the Seeker all untap artifacts to help.

If Tezzeret the Seeker's infinite combo with Empowered Autogenerator and The Chain Veil gets set up, he can tutor for Ichormoon Gauntlet for infinite turns.

Kasmina, Enigma Sage can enable blue Planeswalkers to cast Nexus of Fate over and over to enable infinite turns. This combo is like Ichormoon Gauntlet but is only eight loyalty for extra turn rather than twelve.

Kaya the Inexorable can play Karn's Temporal Sundering from exile each turn once you get her Emblem.

Proliferate Show

Proliferating is a very strong ability, if something has counters on it. When there is nothing to proliferate then these cards kind of just sit around until there is, which isn't great. For this reason, I've tried to find the balance between proliferate, and things that benefit from it like Planeswalkers and poison.

I havent included any instants or sorceries that proliferate, even though a bunch of new ones got printed. If there is nothing that benefits from proliferating, these will kind of just sit in your hand waiting to be relevant. Additionally, many of these cards just aren't that great, and would only really be in here to proliferate. I'd rather include cards that can proliferate repeatedly, like card:Tainted Overseer, Bloated Contaminator, Grateful Apparition, Flux Channeler, or even Throne of Geth.

I'm still figuring out if Throne of Geth is a good include, as there isn't much synergy with it aside from proliferating. I usually end up sacrificing extra mana rocks with it once I dont really need them. At worst, you can sacrifice it to itself to proliferate once...

Other cards which benefit from proliferating include Astral Cornucopia, Crystalline Crawler, Fathom Mage, and Lighthouse Chronologist.

New Phyrexia - 2019 Show

So I started making this deck back in the winter of 2019-2020, you might remember it... Anyways, I've always kind of disliked Planeswalkers for some reason, I mean, they're fine, but maybe not quite my playstyle I guess. However, I do kind of like making decks that like showcase certain mechanics or styles, and I always kind of wondered what it would be like to have a superfrineds deck but still never really use Planeswalkers in other decks... Well, eventually I played against an Atraxa superfriends deck, and saw how powerful Atraxa was as a commander. I had randomly acquired some Planeswalkers from packs, and finally during that winter with so much time inside, I started brewing.

I've had a lot of fun brewing and playing different versions of this deck, but I think what I had the most fun with was making a story about the deck. Now this was back in 2019-2020, years before anyone was aware of All Will Be One and March of Machines, although Kalheim had come out and started to introduce the storyline...

Anyways, I had written a whole story about how the Phyrexians had been wanting to discover the secrets of the Planeswalker's spark in order to create a Phyrexian Planeswalker. Atraxa, as the voice and hand of the Preators, had been tasked with investigating the Planeswalker's spark, and was to start by tracking down the Gatewatch, as they both posed a major threat to Phyrexia's expansion into the Multiverse, and would be powerful Phyrexians were they to be Compleated.

I ended up taking the story off of this primer, as it became long, it needed lots of editing, and was too subject to change as I added or took out Planeswalkers from the deck.

In my story though, Tezzeret was the first Planeswalker to be Compleated, as he had already had nefarious dealings with the Phyrexians, and had unknowingly been subjected to Phyrexian Oil. He was already a bad guy, who was mostly made of metal, plus he had the Planar Bridge like in him, it was perfect. And after the War of the Spark with Nicol-Bolas being banished, Atraxa was free to subvert Tezzeret's already corrupt and twisted mind. Once Tezzeret had been Compleated, Atraxa would use him and the Planar Bridge to track down and Compleate the rest of the Gatewatch and claim her ultimate prize, Teferi.

I went on to tell how Atraxa tracked down and Compleated misguided, impressionable misfit Planeswalkers like Garruk, Dovin Baan, Narset, Oko, Kasmina, The Wanderer, Vraska, Nissa, until she was ready to take on the Gatewatch itself. The final confrontation was kind of funny, as basically the Gatewatch was all just like hanging out at the Clubhouse, being lazy and dumb, and feeling relieved that they had just convinced Jace to leave and track down some clues somewhere... (there is no Jace in the deck, no one like him...). Tezzeret just opened a portal right in the middle of the Clubhouse, and Atraxa and the rest of her Phyerxian Planeswalker army, as well as a bunch of Phyrexian monsters and other lost souls who had been Compleated, like Pir, Lae'zel, Captain Sissay etc., all just busted the place up.

Teferi was the last one standing, with one or two others, depending on who I actually had in the deck at any given time. But ultimately the Gatewatch was defeated, and compleated. With her Compleated Planeswalker army, Tezzeret's Planar Bridge, and Teferi's time magic, Atraxa would go on to conquer and Compleat not only the Multi-verse, but all timelines of all realities!

I thought it was cool that I kind of thought of all that before it was really a thing yet, but I'm sure I wasn't the only person who thought about that kind of thing... Wizards was probably already working on that story line that many years before anyways. I do think it was way cooler to have Tezzeret be the first Compleated Planeswalker. It makes may more sense than Tamiyo.
