Welcome to my commander deck featuring the large and in charge, Aegar, the Freezing Flame!

The Kaldheim commander Aegar, the Freezing Flame certainly has an interesting ability that rewards us for overkilling our opponents creatures either an Instant, Sorcery or Giant card (and Wizards too but there aren't many in the deck that will trigger this). For that reason, Aegar has quite an easy build path. For this particular deck, I've gone for a mash of 'hyper removal' and 'Giant Tribal' into one deck. Because of this, the decks plays quite favourably into our opponents go wide strategies rather than go tall. The more creatures on the board, the more our wipes draw us cards.

The first thing you might notice is a lack of single target removal. Instead, I've gone for as many 'Stuff you don't control' wipe spells like Chandra's Ignition and Disaster Radius. With this, it effectively turns all our removal spells into slightly cheaper Decree of Pain's. If our opponents creatures somehow get out of boardwipe range, we can always use shrinking cards like Polymorphist's Jest to turn those chonky cards to little 1/1's. If our opponents aren't putting out enough creatures, we can always give them some with cards like Hunted Dragon and Hunted Phantasm. A great political move that is actually for our gain too.

The other half of the deck is our Giant Tribal theme to which we have filled it with some of the best Izzet Giants we can. Since Giants are usually quite large (pun intended) they can protect our life total while we wait for our opponents to build their board state to drop the bomb on the board. Because Aegar's ability works for Giants too, it deters people from attacking us since we can draw off their dying creatures. The downside to Giants are usually they come with colossal mana costs (Urza's Incubator is a windmill slam in thie deck if you own one) we have ways to copy our creature spells like Quasiduplicate and the recurrable Stolen Identity. These also work on the Hunted creatures to give us more fuel for our wipes! Shoutout to Call of the Kindred as a personal favourite card of mine in this deck to stick on Aegar himself.

Typically the most common wincon for this deck is the reliable Repercussion. This card does some serious work in this deck and can end the game super fast with all the mass removal we have, just be careful as it does affect us too! We also have the classic Laboratory Maniac for if we draw enough. Finally, good ol' Giant beatdown will do the trick!

Thanks for checking out my Aegar, the Freezing Flame deck. As I mentioned previously, the more creatures your opponents play, the better time you will have going wild with this deck. If you removed the majority of the Giant tribal stuff, I suspect Aegar would make a decent Izzet control commander.
