Maybeboard

Abzan Hatebears featuring Primal Surge. A lot of the cards seem contradictory (ETB triggers & shutting off ETBs), but aren't. Our goal is to slow combo players long enough that we can attempt to Surge a win or vulture a kill. To this end a redundancy of hatebears has been included since they are likely to eat removal.

After Surging we have several options:

  1. We can stack ETBs to Altar of the Brood our opponents (noting that our static effects that shutdown creature ETBs will limit Altar to non-creature permanent triggers). Note that Yixlid shuts down the old-drazi that reshuffle graveyards, as does our Leyline & Anafenza. If we were luck enough to build Bloodchief Ascension prior to Surging then we have an instant win.

  2. Ob Nixilis can eliminate 1-3 players from land triggers depending on how late we Surge.

  3. We all-out swing thanks to Concordant Crossroads, using Pathbreaker Ibex & Elesh Norn for a boost.

  4. Nature's Revolt will provide us with swinging lands whilst also killing enemy lands thanks to Elesh Norn.

  5. Elesh Norn & Linvala ensures they cannot tap said lands upon resolution of Surge.

  6. Presuming that Grand Abolisher is still in your library (or in play if lucky), then if the Surge resolves, you win as no one will be able to interfere using spells or abilities.
