  • Introduction:

“For justice and peace, I will keep watch.”

“Until all have found their place, I will keep watch.”

“If it means that people can live in freedom, yeah, I’ll keep watch.”

“For the sake of the Multiverse, I will keep watch.”

“So everyone gets what they truly deserve, I will keep watch.”

“I’ll keep watch. Happy now?”

“For the life of every plane, I will keep watch.”

“For the lost and forgotten, I will keep watch.”

  • The deck:

Gatewatch!! Assemble! The multiverse is on peril once again. What heroes will rise to defend it?

This is a superfriends deck that aims to use planeswalkers as value engines and steamroll our opponents with the advantage they provide us every turn, while having a minor reanimation subtheme to take advantage on our commander's alternative side.

Mila, besides being an awesomely cute fox, offers a flavor of superfriends few decks dare to try: boros. She also provides a huge boost to our planeswalkers, since any attack will make them stronger (making cards like Gideon Jura extremely goo) and also provide card draw when we face single-objective removal. Luka, the back of Mila, isn't as awesome but is a planeswalker itself and can provide card draw and reanimation, and we have really good targets like Emeria Shepherd.

  • The deck's strengths:

This is weird pillowfort superfriends hybrid that tries and mostly succeeds at creating a controlled forced combat scenario: you want to force your opponents to attack you, to make Mila's ability trigger faster and turbocharge your way through your planeswalker activations to their "ultimate" ability that will usually be an emblem that gives overwhelming advantage and cannot be removed. The best emblems you can have are Rowan Kenrith 's emblem and Elspeth, Knight-Errant 's emblem, but Ajani Vengeant 's ultimate has oftentimes been extremely helpful, specially if dealing with an archenemy-kind of player, since you can easily work with the other players to power up Ajani's loyalty. We also have cards that will naturally have great synergy with planeswalkers, such as Deploy the Gatewatch, Call the Gatewatch, Oath of Gideon, Triumphant Reckoning and Urza's Ruinous Blast.

  • The deck's weaknesses:

We have to face that planeswalkers can be very fragile on a hostile board, specially in commander, and if we cannot control the amount of creatures and parry the blows then we will be in trouble. That's why we have a fair amount of boardwipes, and even Dawn Charm to help with preventing damage, as well as Archon of Absolution and Baird, Steward of Argive to try and make the attacks go elsewhere.
