Contested War Zone is another card with a similar effect.

As for a commander, I'm not sure. It sounds combat centric but also maybe politics focused?

Marisi, Breaker of the Coil, Jared Carthalion, True Heir, Queen Marchesa and Breena, the Demagogue are the first ones to come to mind. Jared might be your best bet, I think.

There's 2 major areas for this deck that need some tlc... evasion and card draw.

Evasion: Champion of Lambholt, Spirit en-Dal, Spirit Mantle, Soltari Visionary, Odric, Master Tactician, Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner, Bedlam, and Loyal Apprentice are all good options.

Draw: Welcoming Vampire, Beast Whisperer, Esper Sentinel, Jared Carthalion, True Heir, Ohran Frostfang, Selvala, Explorer Returned, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, and Rites of Flourishing all deserve spots. Right now you only have Toski and Guardian Project that I see for card draw.

Loyal Apprentice is a stud here. Spirit Mantle/Spirit en-Dal are great ways to get any creature into the redzone. Aura Shards is amazing and at $5-6 it's the most reasonable price you'll find it for.

I also suggest more card draw options like Rites of Flourishing, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Jared Carthalion, True Heir, Selvala, Explorer Returned, Runic Armasaur, Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner, and Welcoming Vampire... they're all good budget options. Toski, Bearer of Secrets and Ohran Frostfang are at the top end of your budget but are worth their weight in gold here.

How has you card draw suite panned out for you? I'm counting 7 sources, 2 of which are pseudo draw from your opponents libraries. I personally try to hit 10-12 draw sources (preferably repeatable) in all of my decks unless I have someone like Tymna in the Command zone.

A few I run that you don't include Sylvan Library, Welcoming Vampire, Jared Carthalion, True Heir, and Lifecrafter's Bestiary. The Great Henge is another I'd suggest but haven't tried because I don't own one.

You're severely lacking in the card draw department so I have some suggestions for you. I'll try my damndest to keep things budget friendly.

Selvala, Explorer Returned, Rites of Flourishing, Lifecrafter's Bestiary, Beast Whisperer, Jared Carthalion, True Heir, Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner, and depending on your # of non-human, Keeper of Fables.

Loyal Apprentice and Odric, Master Tactician are another 2 cards I highly recommend.

Thanks, I've been meaning to update it, I've just been playing a lot of the new commanders lately. I built Jared Carthalion, True Heir in a vein similar to this deck and while I LOVE the Monarch mechanic, I just haven't got a great feeling with Jared. Queen Marchesa and Firesong feel more fun apart than trying to cram their two tastes into the same deck.
