Balduvian Shaman

Creature — Human Cleric Shaman

Tap: Change the text of target white enchantment you control that doesn't have cumulative upkeep by replacing all instances of one color word with another. That enchantment gains "Cumulative upkeep (1)." (For example, you may change "counters black spells" to "counters blue spells.")

I pulled a few from manaless dredge because they can be confusing.
Narcomoeba -- This is a good one to watch for with the mill effects you have
Salvage Titan -- recurrence from graveyard, could easily be missed
Vengevine -- another classic recurrence from graveyard
Prized Amalgam -- could be easy to miss it leaving graveyard with these other graveyard creatures
Sword of the Meek -- ditto

Raging River -- confusing attack enchantment
Launch the Fleet -- strive targeting effect
Well of Knowledge -- conditional effect plus card draw
Night Soil -- this one exiles the two creatures as a cost, might be worth weirdness
Hoarder's Greed -- choice + draw cards
Vodalian Illusionist -- phasing
Shimmering Efreet -- more phasing
Chandra, Pyromaster -- I noticed you didn't add any planeswalkers, here's a random suggestion
Yawgmoth's Will -- more recurrence from graveyard
Balduvian Shaman -- turns a white enchantment to colorshift and add cumulative upkeep
Tombstone Stairwell -- creates creatures to aid in confusing rules
Panglacial Wurm -- classic judge's tower card, once you search a library you have to cast it
Hexdrinker -- slightly confusing level up ability plus possible "protection from everything" ability

kpres on Richard Garfield Ph.D

Hi Friends,

I built an EDH deck a couple of years ago with Richard Garfield, Ph.D. as the commander. My deckbuilding challenge was to use the worst blue cards and artifacts -- cards as irrelevant as Balduvian Shaman and Delif's Cone. The idea is that when he is not in play, the deck is completely useless, but as soon as you get him onto the battlefield, suddenly your Dark Sphere becomes Pact of Negation and your Air Elemental becomes Dream Halls.

In theory, the deck was absolutely nuts, but I ended up playing it once, getting frustrated, and taking it apart. The reason was that I wasted too much time during the game on looking up cards in Gatherer and writing things down on sticky notes. It was terrible! No fun for anyone.

Just recently, I had an idea that I could prepare for any game by printing proxies on cards I planned to play. I could have little slips of paper that go in front of the card so that everyone knows my Ornithopter has become a Black Lotus.

Has anyone else built a deck with Richard Garfield and has some thoughts to share? I'm looking forward to putting it back together and getting a proxy-board together.

Thank you,

kpres

By the way, I recently learned how to search Gatherer for specific mana costs. This is highly relevant for deck building with this commander. In the "Mana Cost" field, you can type m/3uu/ to search for ; e.g. https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&mana=+=[m/3uu/]

Vampiric Empath

Creature - Vampire Shaman

Flash

Whenever an opponent loses any amount of life, put a -1/-1 counter on Vampiric Empath.

: Counter target spell, put a -1/-1 counter on Vampiric Empath, draw a card and lose 3 life.

0/4

There's your mono-blue vampire, AND the rare mono-blue Shaman! He's on a short list with the likes of Sultai Skullkeeper and Balduvian Shaman, the latter of which is doubly odd because it is a non-red Balduvian and a mono-blue Shaman.

He's a psychic vampire, who shares an empathic link with the other players, and turns their spells into energy useable by their master, at a cost to their own vitality.

Make something that is a tribe and a color that doesn't make sense, but which there are other examples of.

There is no upper limit to the power or toughness of creatures. A creature can be 1 Billion/1 Billion if you can get it that high. (see: Quillspike + Devoted Druid)

However, the interaction you just listed does NOT work because Balduvian Shaman only allows you to change instances of color words in a card's text. The color words in magic are white, blue, black, red, and green. With Balduvian Shaman you could change all instances of "red" in a card's text to "black," but you cannot change +0/+2 to +9000/+9000.

my friend has a blue white enchantment deck and he has the card Balduvian Shaman and after he gets his Castle out he uses his Balduvian Shaman to change the text of it from "untapped creatures you control get +0/+2" to " untapped creatures you control get +9000/9000" I want to know, is that even legal?
