Gidgetimer I was going off your 1st response where you said the combination of his -2, Lightning Bolt, and Fork would only trigger his passive 3 times. I'm still pretty new to MTG, and thought that it should trigger his passive 4 times. I was thinking possibly a 5th because of when you get the copy of Lightning Bolt from casting Fork, and then you cast it. But I guess it wouldn't be considered a cast if it was a copy that was created and placed on the stack?

So in my mind, it would be:

  1. Active his -2 ability
  2. Cast Lightning Bolt (1st trigger)
  3. A copy is made from his -2 ability (2nd trigger)
  4. Cast Fork that targets Lightning Bolt (3rd trigger)
  5. A copy is made of Lightning Bolt by Fork (4th trigger)
  6. My questionable 5th trigger was then "casting" Lightning Bolt after the copy is made

None of the scenarios above asked about the -2 and Fork. This scenario would indeed trigger Ral, Storm Conduit 4 times. (casting Lightning Bolt and Fork and copies made from -2 and from Fork).

I'm not sure where you are getting five triggers from. Are you wondering about -2, Fork, and Riku of Two Reflections? Because at that point the best strategic choice is just to copy the Fork instead of the Lightning Bolt with Riku and just make infinite copies by forking your Fork repeatedly.

Gidgetimer But wait a sec, wouldn't it trigger 4 times?

Scenario: You trigger Ral, Storm Conduit's -2 ability. Then you cast Lightning Bolt (1st trigger). The -2 ability triggers because of casting Lightning Bolt (2nd trigger). Then you cast Fork (3rd trigger). Lastly, Fork creates a copy of Lightning Bolt (4th trigger). And when you cast the copy of Lightning Bolt, wouldn't that actually be a 5th trigger? Man I hope someone can clear this up for me lol

Sudden Spoiling and Hero's Downfall are not playable modern cards, the removal has to be more efficient than that. Staple BR removal options would be 3-4 Lightning Bolt 2-4 Fatal Push 1-2 Molten Collapse 0-1 Angrath's Rampage. I'd also cut the Blightning.

Vampire of the Dire Moon kinda boring generic 1 drop. I assume Tinybones, the Pickpocket is way out of your budget, the cards not super great in here anyways.

Hooded Blightfang is honestly not the best card but I mean if you're playing deathtouch tribal then you should probably play it. Also interesting you chose BR because most deathtouch decks I see are BG and use Fynn, the Fangbearer. Green also gives you some better 1 drop deathtouchers like Gnarlwood Dryad and Narnam Renegade, and also a 2 drop Chevill, Bane of Monsters. Also 3 drop Glissa Sunslayer.

Zoyowa Lava-Tongue 2 drop deathtoucher. Nighthawk Scavenger 3 drop.

I like this beat down version of Zada a lot. Unfortunately Soul's Fire and Gravitic Punch dont work how you probably want it to work. Since it will target Zada and another creature or player, It doesnt trigger Zada. You could probably fill these spots with some spot removal such as Lightning Bolt or Zoyowa's Justice

Niko9 on Favorite EDH Cards

Oh, and it may seem a little weird but I really love targeted removal in EDH. One of my favorite things in a game is to look around the table, assess threats, and have lots of flexible answers. Cards like

Cast Out

Lightning Bolt

Mutiny

Path to Exile

Swift Reconfiguration

Tragic Slip

Actually, yep, Tragic Slip is definitely my pet removal spell : ) It's always the best card in my hand, it just depends on when it gets used.

I guess part of it is that when I used to play board sweepers it always felt so uninteractive. So many games became, somebody doing a combo, does anyone have Cyclonic Rift? And that's so chance dependent that it feels unfun, to me at least. I like target removal because they always have a target, so I can play enough of them to always have some answer, and then it's on me if I don't save it for the correct threat.

With only 16 lands in your deck, you won’t have the mana to cast Desolation Twin until you’ve drawn around 38 cards… there is no way a game is going that long regardless of format/playstyle.

If I were making changes, I would ditch all of Hedron Blade (too weak, too niche), Slab Hammer (really bad card), Desolation Twin (the game’s never going long enough to cast it), and both Retreat to Hagra and Retreat to Valakut (neither really do anything).

In their place I would add 6 more lands, 4x Lightning Bolt, and 4x Flame Slash

Ionizing Blast

Instant

Ionizing Blast deals damage to any target equal to the amount of damage dealt by other instants and sorceries you've cast this turn.

At first, there was a mild Shock. Then, a Lightning Bolt the likes of which wielded by Keranos himself. And then, Rolling Thunder that engulfed all of Theros.

Make a Planeswalker who can be your commander, who gives you an emblem.
