Witherbloom Command

Sorcery

Choose two —

  • Target player mills three cards, then you return a land card from your graveyard to your hand.
  • Destroy target noncreature, nonland permanent with converted mana cost/mana value 2 or less.
  • Target creature gets -3/-1 until end of turn.
  • Target opponent loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

Weekly Results:

Mono G: ❌✅✅

Amalia: ❌❌

Dimir Phoenix: ❌✅✅

Lost every game where my deck didn’t get off the ground (and against Amalia bc that deck is insane). Dimir Phoenix was won by switching out of combo mode & beating down with Mosswood Dreadknight, Sentinel of the Nameless City & Sheoldred, the Apocalypse.

Note to self & others: a hand of three lands, one Raffine's Informant and two Witherbloom Commands is not keepable. No route to Fang :p

Wow I am so in love with what you are trying to do, I had to comment!

Creakwood Liege is my personal pet card so I can't tell you how good it feels to see it.

Some thoughts:

  • I don't know your metta but if you ever consider taking out Force of Despair, I could see Witherbloom Command doing a lot of work for this deck as a very flexible spell that is cheaper and still triggers Woodlurker Mimic.
  • Putrid Leech, Throwback is right, I love seeing that again. That being said have you considered experimenting with Grim Flayer in its place at all? Does a lot of the same work as Putrid Leech by quickly becoming a 4/4 and its Surveil 3 ability can do a lot of work to set you up for the win.
  • I agree with the prior comment that Glissa Sunslayer is going to be better for you than Dreg Mangler. That being said I respect your commitment to your fast aggro approach, and as someone who used to run Dreg Mangler, I get it. It's better than most people give it credit for. I did find Sarulf, Realm Eater to be a strong replacement. Having a good removal package, like you do, you can count on it getting more counters and you can reset the board if you start to fall behind.
  • Final note. if you do decide to add more legends I would squeeze in a Shizo, Death's Storehouse for the free damage.

Overall I really love what you are doing and I look forward to seeing how the deck evolves!

jdogz32 the list definitely looks a lot stronger!

My only suggestion would be to ditch Witherbloom Command (or move em to the sideboard) for 3 more lands (or 2 lands and another creature).

If your having lots of problems versus flyers i’d suggest making some dedicated room in your sideboard for more creature hate (2 copies of Assassin's Trophy would go a long way), and also maybe run more copies of Grist, the Hunger Tide mainboard, as its able to kill problematic threats.

Also, Fiend Artisan is probably a strict upgrade to some of your existing creatures.

DeadTree i’m going to ignore Ebony Treefolk for now as it’s not a modern-legal card, and imo doesn’t work particularly well with your other cards anyway.

It looks like your ganeplan should be around going-wide with token-creatures, to give Creakwood Lieges buffs as much power as possible, while also gaining life to benefit Blood Researcher.

I think Sedgemoor Witch fits this theme perfectly, as it makes an army of creatures for Creakwood Liege, while also gaining you life for Blood Researcher. The only other creature i’d suggest running is Slitherhead and some Scavenging Ooze, and then a whole lot if killspells.

Suggestion decklist below. I’m not sure on your budget - i’ve tried to low on cost but let me know if this needs to be cheaper.

wallisface the first time I posted this deck a user whom I cannot remember the name suggested Varolz, the Scar-Striped as a way to utilize my weaker creatures and make them powerhouses by removing a Tarmogoyf from my discard. On another note my land count does seem a little low but it's been working find as of lately because of Satyr Wayfinder and Witherbloom Command

My opponent has Rest in Peace in play. Can I cast Witherbloom Command to destroy the enchantment, then mill 3? Or will the milled cards go to exile before Rest in Peace is destroyed?
