Eradicate

Sorcery

Exile target nonblack creature. Search its controller's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with the same name as that creature and exile them. That player then shuffles his or her library.

Balaam__ Eradicate only ever searches for cards with the same name (not land-type), so if you exile a card named Forest with it, you only search for other cards named Forest (so you can't also exile Breeding Pool, because that's named "Breeding Pool", not "Forest"). Conversely, if you exile Breeding Pool with it, you only exile other cards named "Breeding Pool", and not "Forest" or "Temple Garden" etc.

The card works off the card name itself, and doesn't consider land types or any other such information.

@wallisface I wanted to post this here rather than the deck page out of potential…embarrassment. I may have misunderstood exactly how Eradicate works.

If I cast it and target a land that’s been animated, say a forest, then I can exile every forest they have that isn’t currently on the battlefield correct? And that would also cover any dual land with the subtype forest as well—at least that was my assumption.

If this is true, then I’m alright with how the deck performs. It isn’t going to be on the same level as a Rock/midrange deck tuned to perfection, but that was kind of what I was going for. A fresh take on something established. I figure it’s tuned well enough at least to stay afloat and have some fun, and the Eradicate stuff isn’t integral.

Let me know if I bungled how Eradicate works >.<

I feel like in todays meta, its pretty rare to see a deck run more than 3-4 of any one kind of land - which is going to seriously hinder Eradicate’s ability to neuter the opponent. Have you managed to get many big hits with it?

I’m also thinking maybe more ramp is needed so that if you are destroying lands, you can do so before the opponent has too many in play for that plan to matter?

Thanks for posting, Dead_Blue_. Eradicate is more or less something that if you happen to draw it, you’ll also likely have the means to play it should you choose to—but it isn’t required. I did have an earlier draft that revolved around the card, where I ran Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Utopia Sprawl but it ended up being somehow less reliable yet also much more expen$ive. I decided to reevaluate what I wanted the deck to be and made some cuts.

I also looked at Nissa, Worldwaker but she ended up being too mana intensive to field without more of a ramp shell. Good call though; if there weren’t lower costed options she’d be exactly what I’d be looking for.

Cool concept, how often are you able to get the Eradicate system functioning? How often do you just turn your own forests into creatures to attack with?

If it’s the former a copy or 2 of Nissa, Worldwaker may be worth including

I also feel like Utopia Sprawl would fit in here too

I don’t have any suggestions off the top of my head but perhaps a way to tutor Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth would be worth while …maybe Profane Tutor since it could grab Eradicate or whatever piece you’re missing.

I know it doesn’t fit into the combo but 1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is worth running

Tried to get this working in the past with Animate Land/Eradicate back in the day - never really got running well enough to be more than a gimmick.

The artifact land versions were better, and torque really improved them - splinter just felt like a way to strip win conditions out of decks in them, but it hit hard. Magnetic Mine back in the day used to be a casual list like this, but by the time torque was printed it'd morphed into low cmc artifact destruction and animation, with creatures that destroy artifacts to be both win condition and removal.

It needs a specific meta to run properly - the idea is if you are usually sideboarding in Natural State type cards, you can instead put 10 artifact hate cards mainboard alongside coating + torque and auto win some matchups, while still packing reasonable removal for the rest, and freeing up sideboard slots for whatever you feel weak against.

To make this competitive I'd look really hard at Cleansing Wildfire and creatures that can apply pressure and kill artifacts - your Tin Street Hooligans,Reclamation Sages, Outland Liberator  Flips or whatnot to kill key threats.

With Slagwoods Bridge/Sojourner's Companion you can fix to most colours pretty easy if you are prepared to lose a turn, and artifact land access also opens up artifact synergies to get more value from torque/coating.

I tried to get a Scrap Trawler combo line built in alongside the list with the idea that you can use sacrifice + coating to get a lot of value, returning Caustic Caterpillar and what not for a value gameplan, but it never really ran smooth enough because everyone packs ways to exile the graveyard.

A white/green Qasali Pridemage version would get access to various white artifact hate cards, but it never quite ran smooth enough.

Best of luck tinkering, and I hope you find the perfect parts for the list.

This reminds me of champions of kamigawa era, when people would use Lifespark Spellbomb and Eradicate (iirc) together. Side note, you could also wrath like this with an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and the natural affinity.

Didn't mean to get on your case about the mana base - I've just seen people dump a lot of money into mana trying to "fix" underoptimized decks and it makes me cringe. Sorry if I came across as rude.

I found a few relevant cards you might've missed. In particular: Dichotomancy is an even bigger bomb than Eradicate , since it can steal all the creatures from an opponent's deck instead of exiling them. Mimeofacture is similar, but requires an investment of 4 mana per creature. Splinter is an Eradicate that requires an artifact creature. And Verdant Succession works like Remembrance for green creatures, except it brings stuff directly onto the battlefield.

Other (less powerful) options: Bazaar of Wonders , Eye of Singularity , Echoing Truth , Sever the Bloodline , Declaration in Stone , Retraced Image , Bubbling Cauldron , Pack Hunt , and Reflector Mage . If you have some way to copy Spy Kit , Biovisionary and Doubling Chant could also work.

In general, I think the biggest challenge you'll face is that effects synergizing with Spy Kit are kind of all over the place. There's board wipes, removal, staxxy control, creature tutoring... but not a lot of actual finishers. You've got to make room not only for precursors to Spy Kit (draw, ramp, tutors, etc.), but stuff that can win the game.

Maybe focus on one or two archetypes for the cards enabled by Spy Kit, then pick an unrelated win con? Or fill up on stealing/copying effects that can help set up Spy Kit combos but also be used offensively? I don't know... interesting dilemma.
