Zurgo Helmsmasher vs Infect
Asked by Dvious 9 years ago
What is the outcome of a fight between Zurgo Helmsmasher and a 2/2 with Infect like Viridian Corrupter ?
This is because an indestructible creature only stops it from dying from damage or being destroyed by a spell. Reducing its toughness 0 or less, exiling it, putting it in the owners library, or bouncing it back to its owners hand are the only ways to get rid of a indestructible creature once it is in play.

First, fight is a keyword action with a very specific meaning. In this case, it doesn't matter whether the creatures deal damage to one another during a fight or during combat, but it's best to mention this distinction just in case.
Zurgo Helmsmasher will deal 7 damage to Viridian Corrupter , and Viridian Corrupter will deal 2 infect damage to Zurgo Helmsmasher . As a result, Zurgo Helmsmasher will be a 5/0 creature and Viridian Corrupter will have lethal damage marked on it. Viridian Corrupter will be destroyed as a state-based action, and Zurgo Helmsmasher will simultaneously be put into its owner's graveyard as a state-based action.
Both Viridian Corrupter 's triggered ability and Zurgo Helmsmasher 's triggered ability will trigger, although Zurgo Helmsmasher 's ability will do nothing when it resolves because Zurgo Helmsmasher is no longer on the battlefield.
Note that Zurgo Helmsmasher 's conditional indestructible ability is irrelevant here because being put into a graveyard for having 0 or less toughness is not the same as being destroyed.

They both would die, as the -1/-1 counters would leave Zurgo as a 5/0 creature.
