Will Lethal Vapors trigger occur when it is brought into play via Replenish, alongside Humility and Opalescence?

Asked by andymaul123 8 years ago

My playgroup ran into this scenario, and I wanted to the collective knowledge of T/O.
Replenish brings Lethal Vapors Opalescence and Humility into play. Opalescence makes them creatures (Layer 4), Humility affects abilities and power/toughness (Layer 6).

Rule 613.6g states "If two or more objects would receive a timestamp simultaneously, such as by entering a zone simultaneously or becoming attached simultaneously, the active player determines their timestamp order at that time."

We've ruled it that Lethal Vapors trigger will not go onto the stack as it was removed by Humility and is thus a 1/1 creature with no abilities.

Is this incorrect? Will Lethal Vapors trigger occur and thus wipe them on resolution? Lend me your thoughts! Please use rules and sources. Thanks!

Lethal Vapors doesn't have the triggered ability at the time it would trigger, so it doesn't trigger.
603.6a Enters-the-battlefield abilities trigger when a permanent enters the battlefield. These are written, "When [this object] enters the battlefield, . . . " or "Whenever a [type] enters the battlefield, . . ." Each time an event puts one or more permanents onto the battlefield, all permanents on the battlefield (including the newcomers) are checked for any enters-the-battlefield triggers that match the event.

The game checks for ETB triggers after the event puts objects onto the battlefield. Lethal Vapors has no abilities at this time.

Also of note, the only way timestamp really matters here is that it affects whether Lethal Vapors ends up as a 1/1 or 4/4.
