what is cord of callings mana cost

Asked by FNMgeek 9 years ago

Chord of Calling is just an example, but when it comes to X mana cost spells what is their mana cost when played. For example if i Chord of Calling for 5 is the cmc now eight. if this is true could i counter it with a card like Disdainful Stroke .

The converted mana cost is 3. X values do not count with converted mana cost. Sorry! )=

The above is true except when the spell is on the stack. On the stack, if X=5, Chord of Calling 's mana cost is indeed 8.

Actually, I may be wrong. Mtgsalvation says it's converted mana cost is 3, anywhere except on the stack, which is where it would be if you counter it. When a spell with X in the mana cost is on the stack, X counts for whatever value was chosen for it. In any other zone, X is 0. In your example the converted mana cost of the Chord of Calling spell is 5 + G + G + G = 8. It can be countered by Disdainful Stroke .
