What happens to my Unearth creature?

Asked by Dreykon 3 years ago

I have Sedris, the Traitor King in play and Thraximundar in my graveyard.

I use the Unearth ability Sedris, the Traitor King gives creatures in the yard and I bring back Thraximundar.

I then cast Reality Ripple on Thraximundar.

I assume Thraximundar does not exile because he didn't leave the battlefield but its also not there at the end of turn.

Does it then exile on my next end step once phased in because it is not a new object and remembers the delayed trigger of unearth?

You will get to keep your Thraximundar after it phases back in.

Uneath in an ability that represents three abilities, one activated, one delayed triggered, and one static. The activated ability reanimates the creature. The delayed triggered ability exiles the creature at the beginning on the next end step, and the static ability is a replacement effect. The replacement changes all LTBs into being exiled.

Since Thraximundar is treated as though it were not on the battlefield when the delayed trigger resolves, Thrax is not exiled due to that trigger. The delayed trigger still triggers and will not trigger again. Once Thrax is back, the LTB replacement effect still affects it. Notable, a creature phasing in/out does not make it a new object. Phasing only changes that object's state. Otherwise, the act of phasing Thrax out would envoke its LTB replacement effect.

If you wanted a new Thraximundar object, you would have to Ephemerate it (or the like). I don't, however, want to go into detail about that. There are a number of cases to consider, all of which are only tangential to your original question. If you'd like, we can walk through those as well, but I don't want to waste your time if you aren't interested.

Hope this helps!!

Tylord2894 Thank you very much.

On your Ephemerate I actually know how that works just bumped in to the answer by mistake while looking up my question lol But thank you for being open to help me with it ;-) I appreciate it.
