What counts as a draw?

Asked by 3rdeye88 8 years ago

Hi all. I have a Draw Power deck, and I'm wondering what exactly constitutes a "Draw" The way I understand it is that anytime a card goes from my library into my hand that counts as a draw. For example, I have Lorescale Coatl and I play Coiling Oracle The card drawn and revealed is say a Scute Mob(love those little buggers <3), and it does into my hand. Does that trigger my lorescale coatl or does that trigger only by effects that say "draw?" Similarly, if I play a Caravan Vigil and the land goes to my hand, would that count as a draw as well?

Lastly, if any modern savvy players are reading, I'm trying to get more competitive in Modern so I could use some advice. Thanks for answering I appreciate it. =D

There's a difference between draw and put into your hand. If the card in question says draw X cards, then it will trigger Lorescale Coatl X times. Anything that says put X cards in your hand, will not trigger because it is not considered drawing a card.

Only (1) the turn-based action of drawing a card at the beginning of your draw step and (2) effects that specifically say "draw" count as draws. Effects that put cards into your hand do not cause you to draw those cards, so on-draw abilities will not trigger.

Also, your Modern question is more appropriately asked in the Modern forum because it is not a rules question.

Ah okay, thanks guys.

Epochalyptik I know about the modern forum, I just wanted to tack it on at the very end for anyone reading. My question has been answered so I guess that's it. Thanks.
