Stacked abilities, or separate?

Asked by Spook9MM 4 years ago

With Momir Vig, Simic Visionary in play, I cast a Brutalizer Exarch . Will their abilities stack, allowing to search for 2 creatures, shuffling, then placing them both on top of my library? Or do they occur separately, so in essence I'm really only putting 1 on top?

They're treated separately. The main reason is because spells, activated abilities, and triggered abilities are always handled one at a time as they resolve. They can't resolve simultaneously, even if they're two triggered abilities that triggered at the same time.

In your example there's another reason: these triggered abilities don't trigger at the same time. Momir Vig triggers when you cast a green creature spell, meaning the creature spell is still on the stack and hasn't hit the battlefield yet. Brutalizer Exarch triggers when it actually enters the battlefield.

Yeah, that was how I was reading it as well. So basically I search from Momir's ability, shuffle. Then as Brutalizer resolves search again, and reshuffle. So follow up then, any way to draw creature placed on top from Momir prior to Brutalizer search??

If you have an external way to draw a card, perhaps a Beast Whisperer or Soul of the Harvest , and stack the triggers so you search first and then draw, sure. Or a blue creature with flash, like Voidmage Husher or something.
