Stack trigger confirmation

Asked by darkmatter32x 6 years ago

I control Sheoldred, Whispering One and my opponent controls Magus of the Abyss.

My upkeep rolls around and both of their abilities triggers at the same time. The way the stack works is - APNP - in this case Sheoldred's ability goes into the stack first then the Magus which I choose to destroy Sheoldred.

Sheoldred will then go to the grave since the magus will resolve first and when Sheoldred's ability resolves I bring back Sheoldred once again.

Is this scenario correct?

You select a target for Sheoldred, Whispering One's triggered ability when it goes on the stack, not when it resolves. So no, you would have to target something other than Sheoldred because she is not a valid target when the ability triggers.

This would work if you had a second Sheoldred in your graveyard for the one you have on the battlefield to target during this series of events.

Another interaction worth pointing out here is that because Magus of the Abyss' ability targets and Sheoldred, Whispering One's final ability does not, on your opponent's turn they can choose a target for the Magus and then sacrifice it to Sheoldred and only lose the one creature.
