Spoilers for C19! Aminatou's second ability vs. Pendant of Properity, who gains control of it?

Asked by Pocketmouse 4 years ago

Recently Pendent of Prosperity Was spoiled for the new commander 2019 set. Aminatou, the Fateshifter 's second ability states to exile target permanent you own and return it to the battlefield under your control. But the pendant states taht it comes into play under the control of an opponent. If Aminatou's second ability was used on Pendent of Prosperity what statement overrides which?

Thanks

The replacement effect on Pendant of Prosperity still functions and it enters under an opponent's control.

It enters under an opponent's control. Pendant of Prosperity's first ability is a replacement effect that modifies how it enters the battlefield. The replacement effect will be applied any time the Pendant would enter the battlefield for any reason.

Isn't Aminatou's ability also a replacement effect? How do you determine which replacement effect, takes effect? And if the opponent who controlled the Pendent of Prosperity cast Cloudshift on it, what would happen?

Aminatu's ability is not a replacement effect, it is simply the effect. Anything that puts a permanent on the battlefield has to specify who's control it enters under. If the player who controls the Pendant somehow animated it and then cast Cloudshift on it; it would try to enter, have a replacement effect that needs applied and then enter under one of their opponents' control.

Not at matter here since there is only a single replacement effect, but the affected player or the controller of the affected object chooses the order in which replacement effects apply and each affect applies only once to a single event.
