Rupture Spire in Hope EDH

Asked by Rediblackdragon 6 years ago

So I'm attempting to make this Hope of Ghirapur EDH deck and lands are becoming something of a hassle. My question is, now that Rule 5 is removed, how exactly would something that makes any color mana like Rupture Spire work in a colorless deck?

Rupture Spire can produce any color of mana for you, even in a colorless EDH deck, however, as you still cannot have any cards with a color identity outside of colorless, you'd be hard pressed to use that to your advantage. You'd need stuff like Sunburst cards. Suncrusher, etc.

The only thing that removing rule 5 changed is that now you may produce off-color mana instead of it being turned to colorless automatically.

You could always have Rupture Spire, or any land that taps for any color, in any deck as long as that land doesnt have any colored mana symbols anywhere, because lands are inherently colorless.

You can use this colored mana just fine in your deck to cast cards with Generic Mana in their cost like your commander for example. It just cant be used to pay for portion of costs.

That's what I figured. Guess not all generically good lands can be good all the time, huh? Thanks for the answer!
