Question about tapping on opponent's turn.

Asked by sbrr29 9 years ago

So if i have, for instance, cards like Manalith or Darksteel Ingot, am i allowed to tap these for mana on my opponent's turn or can i only do this on my turn? I know i can tap lands on my opponents turn but i wasn't sure if this worked.

Thank you.

In most cases activated abilities of a permanent can be used whenever that permanent's controller has priority and the permanent has been under their control since the beginning of their turn. So yes, you can use Manalith or Darksteel Ingot during your opponent's turn as long as nothing on the field says otherwise.

Thank you. I usually just play with a couple friends and we always did it, but i was curious if that's actually how it was or not. Thanks.

@Powerhouse64: Duration of control only matters if the permanent is currently a creature, as creatures are subject to summoning sickness. Summoning sickness also applies only to abilities with the or untap symbols in their activation costs.

This rule is not applicable here because neither example card is a creature.
