Question about Summary Dismissal

Asked by tonycheat9 7 years ago

Hi I want to know how this card works Summary Dismissal Can it exile any spell that's on the stack when my opponent is playing a card? And does it stop Planeswalkers from ticking and any abilities on a card? Also does it stop Entering The Battlefield abilities?

From Gatherer:7/13/2016 Only activated and triggered abilities on the stack are countered. Static abilities of objects remain unaffected, and activated and triggered abilities of objects may be activated or may trigger again later in the turn. Spells and abilities that have already resolved arent affected.

You will exile any and all spells (both your own and your opponent's).
It will counter the ability of the planewalker. However, it will not undo the change in loyalty, because that is part of the cost, not the effect, of the ability.
It will stop triggered abilities such as Civic Wayfinder's, but not replacement effects such as Festerhide Boar.

  • It exiles all spells, not some of them. Meaning any spell currently on the stack when Summary Dismissal resolves will be exiled; they won't resolve.

  • it counters all abilities, only triggered and activated. Planeswalker abilities are activated abilities. They use the stack and can be countered. Triggered abilities, like ETB abilities, also use the stack and can be countered. Static abilities are unaffected by this card.

Can Summary Dismissal counter/exile Emrekul?

Yes. When Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is cast, her ability triggers and goes on the stack. In response to both, you may cast Summary Dismissal which exiles Emmie off the stack and counters her triggered ability.
