Prowess vs Counterspells

Would a creature with Prowesss till get a +1/+1 until end of turn if your non-creature spell was countered.
The card text says 'Whenever you cast a spell' but if it is countered then the spell isn't cast...

Spells are cast once they are put successfully on the stack. Whether they resolve or not, they are still cast and will trigger heroic, prowess, etc.
