Obliterate + Crucible of Worlds

Asked by Guizee 6 years ago

I've been wondering: if I cast Obliterate, can I still use my lands (previously destroyed) if I have Crucible of Worlds on the battlefield? Or if I could still re-use all of my destroyed lands if I cast Psychic Spiral? Is it possible to destroy just your opponents' lands when playing multiplayer EDH?

Crucible allows you to play lands from graveyard. Therefore a land should exist in the graveyard to be able to use crucible's ability. If you use psychic spiral on yourself and you didnt mill any land then you cant use crucible's ability.

darkmatter32x I understand. So Obliterate won't prevent me from casting lands from the graveyard neither will stop me from casting Psychic Spiral. Nice, thanks for the help.

Obliterate does do something to stop you from casting lands from your graveyard, specifically it destroys Artifacts and Creatures, so your Crucible of Worlds and/or Ramunap Excavator will be destroyed. However if you play a new one later, or make them indestructible before Obliterate resolves, you will be free to play lands from your graveyard.

Guizee keep in mind that you don't 'cast' lands, instead you 'play' them and it cannot be countered or interacted with.

darkmatter32x Neotrup thanks for clarification. But, if I have Padeem, Consul of Innovation will my artifacts be affected while and after Obliterate resolves? What if I use That Which Was Taken ability to make Padeem, Consul of Innovation indestructible, will I still need to destroy everything when Obliterate resolves?

Padeem doesnt have any ability that helps you when Obliterate is on the stack. Obliterate doesnt target, and Padeem protects your artifacts from being targeted (hexproof.) Your better bet would be to protect Crucible of Worlds with That Which Was Taken.

MindAblaze oh okay, thanks. If That Which Was Taken is removed from the battlefield do my Divinity counters remains on my permanents? (sorry I'm fairly new to MTG rules)

They do, but they dont continue to be indestructible. That characteristic is granted to the permanent byThat Which Was Taken.
