Misthollow Griffin + Food Chain Combo Question

I had a question about this interaction. I see that, with this combo, I can infinitely generate mana. But, since Food Chain exiles and adds mana to your pool of one single color, is it just infinite blue mana (assuming I combo out with Misthollow Griffin)? I saw this combo in a Maelstrom Wanderer decklist and he said that you could infinite cascade with this combo. Then I read the cards closer and thought "Does this actually work?"
I may just be overthinking this, but I would like to know if I broke this guy's combo or not. Because if it actually does work, that sounds gross and I want it.

Once you generate an arbitrarily large amount of blue, you start exiling for other colors and using the floating blue to recast. You can generate infinite any color.

What you can do is save up your blue mana (say you've repeated five times and have five blue in your pool) you can exile it again for, say, green, and recast it with the blue mana you already have, then continue exiling for blue mana, etc.
