Lazav, the Multifarious repeat cloning

Asked by Quazer 7 months ago

From what I understand...

If I had Lazav, the Multifarious become a copy Sleep-Cursed Faerie in response to a spell targeting him he would gain ward 2 and the other player would need to pay to target him.

If that is the case, after the player pays the 2 and ward resolves, can I activate Lazav's ability again in response to the spell targeting him making him a new copy of Sleep-Cursed Faerie and thus making the player need to pay 2 again?

In your example Lazav, the Multifarious will gain ward, but it won't do anything in relation to spells already targeting him. Since the spells are already targeting, the trigger event of "becomes the target" doesn't happen while Lazav has ward.

702.21a Ward is a triggered ability. Ward [cost] means “Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that player pays [cost].”
